The series contains records regarding financial aid to schools in the process of
racial integration as part of the provisions for S.659, Education Amendments of
1972. Topics include busing, program appropriations, and establishing
timetable. Records include memoranda, correspondence, congressional record
publications, reports, committee prints, notes, and legislative drafts.

Subjects include:

The Emergency School Aid and Integration Act of 1970 and 1971, S. 1557
aimed at providing financial assistance to local educational agencies in order to
establish equal educational opportunities for all children. This bill includes drafts
from the Emergency School Aid Act, S. 159, and the Emergency and Quality
Integrated Education Act, S 683. Additional bills and amendments attached to
S.659 include Title II Busing Limitations, H.R. 19446, Emergency School Aid Act
and Report, H.R. 2266, Urban Education Improvement Act, S. 1283, and the
Integrated Education Act, S. 1484.

The series includes reports from the Department of Health, Education, and
Welfare regarding the Emergency School Aid Program (ESAP), as well as the
United States Comptroller General on policy and procedure improvement for
approving education grants.

other legislative activities published by the Daily Digest. Selected items are

The series also contains memoranda from education subcommittee staff
