Welcome to the Spring-Mar Fall 2010 Consignment Sale! We appreciate your interest in consigning
with us. Please take a moment to read these guidelines, as we have updated the following sections:
2.What to Consign, 4. How to Tag Your Items (tag template and shoes) , 6.When to Bring Your Items to
the Sale Location and How to Display Them, and 9.Volunteering. We will attempt to hold the sale
rain, snow or shine. We will not be able to reschedule or postpone. For the latest information, visit
www.spring-mar.org or call 703-239-1213.

1. HOW TO CONSIGN WITH SPRING-MAR

Please make sure we know you are coming and have given you a consignor number. To sign up,
email your name, address and phone number to sales@spring-mar.org. You will be assigned a
consignor number, which you will need to use on all your tags (see more regarding tags below).

We have two options for you to consider when consigning with us:
 Consignor receives 60% of the selling price, OR
 Consignor receives 70% of the selling price and works a 3-hour shift at the sale
(Please see the Volunteering section of this document for more information)

Checks will be mailed out within 4-6 weeks of the sale. A notice will go out when the checks have
been mailed. A $10.00 consignment fee to cover administrative costs will be deducted from your
proceeds. If you do not receive your check, you must contact us within 60 days of the sale. There will
be a $30.00 charge for checks re-issued due to incorrect addresses or other errors not the fault of
Spring-Mar.

2. WHAT TO CONSIGN (at the Fall 2010 Sale)

Please consign the following items at this sale:
 Fall and Winter children‟s clothing up to size 14 and children‟s shoes
            Maternity and nursing wear
 Baby/children‟s furniture and equipment (see exceptions below)
            Children‟s books and videos
            Toys and bikes
            Halloween costumes
 Snow gear (coats, pants, boots)

                                                  1
       WE WILL NOT ACCEPT:
 Any recalled items. Before the sale, please check your items at the U.S. Consumer
Product Safety Commission webpage at http://www.cpsc.gov/
          Car seats
          Cribs
          Adult clothing (non-maternity)
 Stuffed toys (due to space constraints)
 Spring and Summer items (they will not sell, and will take up limited rack space)

3. QUALITY AND CONDITION OF ITEMS TO BE CONSIGNED

 All items must be in good to excellent condition.
 All zippers, snaps, and buttons must function correctly.
 Clothing must have no tears, rips, spots, or stains.
 All hems and seams must be finished and not un-sewn.
 All clothes must be on hangers (provided by consignor) due to space constraints. Clothing
must be hung as shown in the diagram in the following section. Be sure that the tag is
       easily visible.
 Toys, games and puzzles must be working and have all their pieces. (Count your game pieces
and make sure they are all there. Put the puzzle together to make sure that all the pieces are
there and belong to the puzzle you are consigning.) Use zip lock bags to contain items with
multiple pieces or components. Be sure to securely tape the zip lock bags shut to prevent
them from being opened and potentially ending up with missing pieces rendering them
       unsellable!
 Test your electronics before bringing them to ensure they are in working order.
 Spring-Mar reserves the right to remove any items at our discretion. We will
be inspecting your items for quality during final setup. Any out of season clothing items and
items not meeting our quality standards, such as extremely worn-out dirty shoes, stained
items, incomplete items, etc. will be pulled from the floor. If the consignor is donating,
stained and/or broken/incomplete items they will be thrown away. If the consignor is picking
up, items will be pulled from the floor, noted as unacceptable and placed in a designated
labeled box to be picked up after the sale.
 Lastly, if you would not buy it, please do not ask us to sell it.

4. HOW TO TAG YOUR ITEMS

We have designed a new tag template this year (see last page of this document). You can type your
information into the template and then print onto the cardstock color of your choice. Using the
template helps us ensure that prices are not changed by shoppers and minimizes error due to misread
prices or consignor numbers. You may also use a 3x5 index card cut in half or card stock or other
heavy paper cut to same size. Please DO NOT use sticky tags, tape alone or flimsy tags (which
may be lost). Masking tape or painters tape is the only tape that should be used to affix your tag to the
item, especially on books. Please be sure that your tags do not have an item written on both sides.
                                                   2
This makes it difficult at check-out. To make it easier for you to pick up your leftovers, and to help us
sort your tags, you may consider using one color (other than white) for all your tags, or marking your
tags with a stamp or sticker to distinguish them. If you change the price of your items, please be sure
to initial the new price.

All tagless items at end of sale will be donated to Spring-Mar and be sent out to various charities
(Please affix tags properly and securely).

What MUST be included on tags:

     On the left:
 Description of item (in case of lost tags)
 Size (do not use S-M-L; use the numerical size, i.e. 6mo, 3T, etc.)
 A big bold „D‟ (if item is to be donated at the end of the sale). Leave this space blank if
you wish to pick up your item after the sale.

     On the right:
 TOP: the first letter of your last name followed by your consignor number (Ex: A-0000)
 BOTTOM: price (Ex: $3.00). [Please note: we require a minimum price of
$0.50 for any item or group of items to be sold and price your items in
increments of $0.50 for easier calculation.]
                       A-0000

           Item: GAP shirt

           Size: 3T

           D $3.50

Sample Tag (sample tags template included on last page of this document)

Other information to include on tags:

 It is a good idea to include the brand name on a tag, if it is a popular one, such as
Gymboree, GAP, Little Tykes, etc. (Please do not use name brand if the item is not the
named brand. For example only use Legos if the blocks truly are Legos)
 On high priced items you may want to note the original retail price if it makes your
                price look like a bargain.
 If your item is brand new, indicate that on the tag (i.e. New!, Never Used!, Worn once!)

How to attach tags:

       On Clothes:

Attach your tags with a tagging gun or a safety pin. (If you have a hole punch, we encourage
you to use these on your tags and put the safety pin through the hole. This will make your tags
easier to attach and remove. For everyone‟s safety, especially our children, DO NOT USE
       straight pins.

                                                      3
ALL Clothing must be on hangers. Dry cleaners will give you hangers if you ask. The hanger
hook should be pointing to the left as you face the item, and your tag should be SAFETY
pinned or tagged with a tagging gun on the front right shoulder when facing the item (which is
the actual left shoulder of the item if you are wearing it; see diagram below). Sets tend to
sell better than separate items, so match things up. Pin sets securely together by hanging the
shirt first. Then turn the hanger over and pin the pants by the waist to the backside of the
hanger, using two pins, with the pin catching the hanger to support the pants. Both pieces can
be viewed without unpinning them, and this prevents lost items.

On larger clothing items, such as maternity or dresses, please secure them with safety pins if
they have a tendency to fall off the hanger. Your items won't sell if they're on the floor!

Pants or shorts sold alone should be pinned at the waist, NOT folded over the hanger. A great
way to keep pants from sliding all over the hanger is to use paper-covered dry cleaner's
hangers. They don't slide and stay neat-looking, which in turn makes them sell better. Again,
dry cleaners will usually give you hangers.

                      Correct Placement of Your Tag

On Non-Hanging Items:

Shoes : Please zip tie shoes together or place them in a zip-lock bag with your tag securely
taped to the OUTSIDE of the bag and with the bag taped shut at the top to insure that your
items stay together.

Large Items: Please make sure your tag is securely attached to your item. Masking tape or
pinning your tag through ribbon and tying it securely to the item are the best options.

Items with small parts: Small parts should be contained in a zip-lock bag and attached
securely to any large item. This will insure no missing parts.

Toys: Please make sure your tag is securely fastened to your item. Attaching your tag with
masking tape or pinning your tag through ribbon and tying it securely to the item are the best
options. Toys that require batteries should be in working condition. No one will purchase an
item if they cannot see that it works.

                                            4
Books and Videos: Please do not use packing tape on books and videos, since it usually tears
the cover. Make sure that videos work, and secure your tag with masking or painters tape, or
put in zip-lock bags. If packaging multiples together in bags, please write all titles on tag.

Additional Instructions: Anything put into a zip-lock bag must have your tag taped securely
to the outside of the bag, and the bag must be taped shut, this will insure that your items are not
separated. Items with missing pieces will be rendered unsellable.

5. HOW TO PRICE YOUR ITEMS

The general rule of thumb is one-third to one-half of the retail price depending upon condition and
demand. Some things to think about: What would you pay for it? What does it sell for on Ebay?

6. WHEN TO BRING YOUR ITEMS AND HOW TO DISPLAY THEM

You may bring and set-out your items during either of the following two times:
          Friday, October 22, 2:00 to 4:00 pm
 Friday, October 22, 6:00 to 8:00 pm (Please keep in mind this is also our early shopping
            time)

When you arrive, be sure to stop at the check-in table and sign the consignor sign-in sheet.
Signing the sign-in sheet acknowledges that you have read and understand the most current updated
consignor guide. Your children are always welcome; however, they must be supervised for safety
reasons and to prevent them from playing with other consignors items. Please double check your
contact information on the sign-in sheet to ensure it is correct. This will help us get your check to you
on time after the sale. Consignors will be given name tags to identify them as such.

Sort clothes by size (newborn to 3 months, 6-9 months, 12 months, 18 months, 24 months, 2T, 3T, 4T,
5, 6, etc.) and by gender (boy and girl) before you arrive.

Plan to spend some time at drop-off displaying your items for sale. Signs are places throughout the
sale area indicating where items should be displayed. Clothing and shoes are organized by gender and
size, books are organized by reading level, and toys are displayed by theme (e.g., trucks, dolls, actions
figures, etc.). Taking the time to display your items in the proper places will increase the likelihood
that they will sell. If you have any questions about where to place an item, ask a sale volunteer in a red
t-shirt. They will be able to guide you in the right direction.

7. EARLY SHOPPING

Early shopping hours will be Friday, October 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. All consignors are welcome
to shop early during this time. You will not be able to shop and/or purchase items during the
afternoon drop off.
                                                    5
8. PICK UP

Plan to pick up any unsold items that you do not wish to donate between 1:15pm and 2:15 pm on
Saturday, October 23, 2010. The doors to the sale will be closed promptly at 1:00pm. All shoppers
will be asked to head to checkout and all consignors will be asked to exit the building through the
downstairs exit as well. At 1:15pm consignors will be allowed to re-enter the building and begin
collecting their items. Be sure to check the boxes labeled Items With Missing Tags for any of your
items that may have lost their tags. Please be sure to follow this plan, as it prevents theft and ensures
security of all your left over items. Please do not attempt to remove your items before the 1:15pm
re-entry. All items left after 2:15pm will become the property of Spring-Mar and will be
donated to charity or retained for future sales.

9. VOLUNTEERING

Volunteers at the sale receive 70% of the sale price for their consigned items (instead of the standard
60%). To select and sign up for a 3-hour volunteer shift, visit our volunteer website at
http://springmarconsignment.qlubb.com/qlubbs/login. Enter your e-mail address and password
“volunteer” to enter the site. When prompted, please enter your first and last names as it would appear
on our consignor list. This way we can cross-check our consignor and volunteer lists. If you have any
questions about the volunteer website or available positions, please contact us at volunteer@spring-
mar.org.

10. DONATIONS

We would greatly appreciate it if you would consider donating your unwanted baby and children‟s
items to Spring-Mar. This means you will not have to do any of the pricing/tagging yourself. We are a
not-for-profit organization and can provide you with a receipt for tax purposes. Please let us know
when you donate your items, that you would like a receipt. If you have items in good to excellent
condition that you wish to donate, please contact us at sales@spring-mar.org to arrange for pick up.

Once again, thank you very much for consigning with us. Our sale has a great
reputation and we usually sell a lot of what is brought in. You can help us make
this next sale equally successful by publicizing the sale to your friends and
neighbors. For any further questions and comments, please email us at
sales@spring-mar.org. Thank you!
