Job Title:           Horticultural Development Manager

Location:            Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames

Responsible to:      Contract Manager

Working Hours:       40 hours per week

Salary:              circa £20-30k pa



Main purpose of job role:

This position is seen by the Company as one of the most important roles in the
contract management team. The post holder will work with the Royal Borough of
Kingston client to develop and improve the parks, open spaces and horticultural
features in their borough. A primary function of the role will be the liaison with a
multitude of stakeholder groups, both internal clients and external organisations
including the third sector.


Specific Duties and Outputs

     1. Meet and liaise with our client as well as other internal departments,
        disabled, ethnic and other stakeholder groups and establish a programme
        of improvements to Parks and other Horticultural features. Attendance at
        meetings out of normal working hours may be required.

     2. Prepare and present reports to various Stakeholder bodies.

     3. Project manage both revenue and minor capital landscape projects
        including design, preparing plans and specifications through to
        maintenance.

     4. Lead on initiatives like Green Flag Awards and Bloom entries.

     5. Secure funding from a variety of different sources including Lottery Grant.
     6. Manage internal and external contractors from project start to finish with
        responsibility for all financial management.

     7. Assist the Client with the development of relevant policies and strategies.

     8. Organise and work with voluntary groups and the third sector.

     9. Support the Senior Horticultural Development Manager and work with
        Horticultural Development Officers on other Contracts to disseminate ‘know
        how’ and to ensure a co-ordinated approach

     10. Ensure that the Company’s Health & Safety policy is observed and
         implemented.

     11. Such other duties and responsibilities as may be required from time to time
         to meet the needs of the business

Special Conditions:

• Annualised hours based on a forty hour week to facilitate some evening, weekend
and bank holiday working.

Attainments
   • Qualified to Degree level within the Horticultural or land based sector.
   • A minimum of 2 years experience gained in a similar role with supervisory
        responsibility
   • Right to work in the UK
   • Full current driving licence.
Abilities
   • Proven ability to interpret verbal and written instructions in a manner that
        facilitates effective working.
   • Excellent written and oral communications skills, with the ability to effectively
        communicate with a diverse range of people.
   • Excellent Presentational skills.
   • Able to work to financial budgets.
   • I.T. skills, practical experience of both Word and Excel software packages.
   • Proven knowledge of office systems and procedures.
   • Understanding of Health and Safety at work policy and practice.

   • Self motivated and able to initiate new ways of working within a defined
        framework.
