    A 7 night African safari
    perfect for naturalists and photographers
There is no better place for a safari than the Masai Mara in
Kenya. With a huge diversity of species and action literally
around every corner it is an inspiring place to be. Late January /
early February is a wonderful time to be there, the grass is short,
it is warm and most of the animals are giving birth. Our 7 night
safari will be based at one of the best traditional safari camps in
the Masai Mara, Rekero. This is a small camp with 7 tents,
situated on the banks of the Talek River. It will be a very special
experience to stay here, away from the hustle and bustle of
    traditional Mara camps.

Our daily routine will be a very simple one. We will head out
before dawn each day, usually on a mission to work with
something at first light. Then we will see how the morning drive
develops as we never know what we will see. The sun rises
quickly at this time of the year so usually after 3 hours or so you
will head back to camp. The rest of the day will be spent relaxing
and chilling out before your afternoon drive, which will begin
two hours before sunset. Once the sun is down we will head back
to camp for a shower and then enjoy the wonderful experience of
bush TV. This is local slang for the campfire......

We will be using Toyota Landcruisers that are designed for safari.
There will be 5 clients per week only and we will have two
vehicles. Andy will be in one with two clients and the other
vehicle will have the remaining three; you will be rotated through
Andy’s vehicle several times during the trip. All of our drivers are
experienced and know the area inside out.

January / February is the start of the new life cycle in the Masai
Mara. The plains are green and starting to dry out, the grass is
short and life seems quite relaxed. The plains are full of new born
gazelles, wildebeest and zebra, plus surprises like hyenas. Of
course the cats give birth at this time too and the number of
young prey species gives them a bonanza. In short it is a
    wonderful time to be there!

This is one of the hottest times of the year and daytime
temperatures can reach 30C and more. Evenings are pleasantly
warm. This is one of the reasons why this is a popular time in the
Mara. It certainly helps with the baggage as you will not be
    taking much!

This tour is designed to appeal to the nature lover as well the
photographer. To make the most of this trip you will need to have
a lens that can reach 400mm and even more if you have it. This
can be a 100-400mm zoom on a cropped camera or something a
little bigger. Of course a shorter lens will be vital too! Baggage
on the internal flight is limited to 15KG per person (total) but we
have purchased an extra 10KG per person for this trip.

Rekero camp is somewhere very special in the Masai Mara. Set
on the banks of the Talek River it is a remote camp all by itself,
where the only sounds at night will be the bush. It is very
exclusive and has only 7 tents, which can be figured as single,
twins or doubles. All tents have an ensuite flush toilet and
integral safari showers (a hi-tech bucket!). Since this is a
traditional camp there is no power in the tents, all lighting is
provided by kerosene lamps. Charging of batteries and other
gizmos occurs in a special tent which has been set up for this
purpose. The food is a mix of local and international cuisine and
is generally regarded to be excellent. The camp also has excellent
community and conservation programs. For further details click
    here to see their website.

Many people run tours to the Mara so why should you come on this
one? Well Andy Rouse is one of the most experienced photographic
safari leaders and his work from the Masai Mara is second to none.
His skill is predicting animal behaviour and you will learn a lot more
than just photography when in his vehicle. Having his experience at
the helm of the tour will ensure that you come back with a quality
African experience and great pictures too. Your tour is also arranged
through a respected and trusted ABTA and ATOL bonded tour
operator, which in this day and age means a lot!

The camp is also worth a mention here as it is special. It is set in a
wonderful area where few other lodges are based, yet it is within
easy reach of all the famous spots. The area around the camp itself is
very famous for leopard and whilst not guaranteed we will be trying
very hard to get you close to this elusive cat. The group size will be
limited to 5 per week, in two vehicles, this ensuring that you will
    have a great experience.

There are two departures dates as follows:

This safari tour is being organised by ABTOT and ATOL (number
9826) bonded WorldWide Safaris Ltd. in partnership with Andy
Rouse. Andy and Worldwide Safaris have been running tours
together for several years and have always given top quality service
as well as a superb product. Please note that it is a requirement of this
tour that all flights must be booked through WorldWide Safaris Ltd.

The tour is open to anyone who has a good sense of humour and has
the right objectives for the trip. These are simply that you love
animals, want to experience the best of Africa and want to
specifically come on an Andy Rouse adventure. You do not have to
be a photographer to come on these trips. The people that we do not
want on this trip are those obsessives that are only interested in
wildlife as trophies, please choose another trip!
                SAFARI 2011
