Film Festival to Launch With Irish Star Cillian Murphy

The 4th Jameson Dublin International Film Festival Programme will be
launched by Golden Globe Nominee and Oscar Nominee Favourite, Cillian
Murphy.

Murphy, who can currently be seen on screen in a breathtaking performance as
Kitten Braden in Neil Jordan’s BREAKFAST ON PLUTO will travel to Dublin specially
for the event which takes place Wednesday 1st February.

The Jameson Dublin International Film Festival is the biggest film event in
Ireland. In 2005, the festival screened over 100 films to an audience in excess of
30,000. It will open with the World Premiere of Paul Mercier’s STUDS which
stars Brendan Gleeson and David Wilmot and includes a clutch of Golden Globe
winners and BAFTA nominees including:

CAPOTE
A hot favourite for the best actor Oscar this year, BAFTA Nominee and
Golden Globe Winner for Best Actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman plays author
Truman Capote as he investigates the killings that inspired his innovative non-fiction
novel, In Cold Blood

PARADISE NOW
Controversial Golden Globe Winner for Best Foreign Language Film,
Paradise Now follows two Palestinian childhood friends who have been recruited for
a bomb strike on Tel Aviv.

SYRIANA
Written and directed by Oscar Winning Screenwriter Steven Gaghan, and
starring Golden Globe Winner and BAFTA Nominee, George Clooney,
Syriana is a political thriller that tracks several disparate characters across the globe
as they find their lives impacted by the ruthless competition for incalculable power
and wealth that drives the oil industry

TRANSAMERICA
Golden Globe Winner for Best Actress, Desperate Housewife Felicity
Huffman does a remarkable turn as a transsexual in this wonderful film that has
been garnering rave reviews across the Atlantic.

Other BAFTA Nominees in the festival include Shooting Dogs and Tsotsi which are
both nominated for The Carl Foreman Award for Special Achievement by a British
Director, Writer or Producer in their First Feature Film. Tsotsi is also nominated for
Best Film Not in the English Language.

Other titles to look out for in JDIFF 2006 include:

L’ENFANT
Winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes 2005, the new film directed by Belgian brothers
Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne deals with a reckless young thief (Jeremie Renier)
with a chillingly irresponsible attitude to his newly born son.

THE MATADOR
Pierce Brosnan plays a washed-up hitman drawing a morose businessman (Greg
Kinnear) into his complicated life in this darkly comic tale written and directed by
Richard Shepard.

THE KING
In James Marsh’s disturbing Texas drama, Gael Garcia Bernal plays a former US Navy
recruit seeking out the father he never met – an evangelist played by William Hurt.
The King is co-written by Oscar Nominee (Monster's Ball) Milo Addica.

JOHANNA
Almost all of the dialogue is sung in Kornel Mundruczo’s Romanian film, one of the
most exciting discoveries at Cannes 2005. An operatic re-interpretation of Carl
Dreyer’s 1928 masterpiece The Passion of Joan of Arc, it features Orsi Toth as a
young morphine addict who feels touched by divine grace.

The Jameson Dublin International Film Festival is programmed by Michael Dwyer. It
is grant aided by the Arts Council of Ireland/An Chomhairle Ealaíon. Media Sponsors
for the festival are The Irish Times, FM104, Carlton Screen Advertising and
