The NUK Electric Breast Pump is compact and simple to use.
To enjoy the full benefits of this appliance please read these operating
instructions carefully before proceeding any further.

The NUK breast pump has a clever push-button design feature. It facilitates the natural
flow of breast milk. By pushing and releasing the button, you can obtain a suction rhythm
that imitates the suckling motion of baby. The NUK breast pump also provides an
adjustable suction pressure allowing breast milk to be expressed more comfortably.

        Key features
        • Electrically operated with adaptor
        • Also operable with 2 AA batteries (not included)
        • Gentle and efficient pump
        • Push-button helps to imitate natural suckling
        • Individually adjustable suction pressure
        • Lightweight and effortless to use
        • Fits on any NUK 125 ml or 250 ml standard bottle

        GENERAL INFORMATION
If you are about to express breast milk, it is essential that you do so in a relaxed
environment. Look for a quiet comfortable spot where you are unlikely to be disturbed.
The initial process of expressing breast milk may take a little longer than anticipated. Your
body must adapt to the output of milk according to your baby’s daily requirements.
These can vary considerably from one day to the next. We would recommend that you
increase your fluid intake in order to promote milk production.

        BREAST CARE AND HYGIENE
Commonsense cleanliness routines should be maintained at all times when breast-feeding
your baby or when expressing breast milk. Careful hand washing will help to minimise
the risk of infection. Particular attention should be given to the hygiene of your breasts
        and nipples.
Upon completion of every breast-feeding or expressing session there is no need to apply
any cream on your nipples. Simply rub them with a little breast milk and let them air-dry
        before fastening your bra.
If you are using nursing pads, always keep some spares close at hand. It is
advisable to change your nursing pads frequently because germs can
grow very quickly in any milk residue left on the pads.
                                                                                                      ver
When showering, avoid the use of soap on your nipples or pa ge o

        ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
Before assembling the NUK Electric Breast Pump for the first time, it is most important
that you clean or sterilise all of its parts as applicable. For details, please refer to the
section headed: Cleaning the NUK Breast Pump on page 7.
        1. Ensure that the bottle seal (10) is in its place inside the pump screw cap (8).
        2. Screw the NUK bottle (12) onto the breast funnel/screw-cap part (8) as shown on
           figure 1.
        3. Insert the pump housing (1) join (7) into the funnel/screw-cap part.

                                            Figure 1 –3–

        Using the NUK Adaptor
        1. Insert the adaptor’s DC plug into the socket (No. 3 from parts list) as demonstrated
           in Figure 2.
        2. Plug the adaptor into a mains power point and switch on.

                                                                                 Figure 2

        Important Information
        • The NUK Electric Breast Pump operates best when using the approved NUK adaptor.
Use only the NUK adaptor provided, otherwise the warranty will be void.

        When using batteries
        1. Insert two AA size batteries into the battery compartment (2) of the pump housing,
ensuring that each battery is pointed as shown on Figure 3.

                                                           Figure 3 –4–

        OPERATING THE NUK BREAST PUMP
YOU ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO ALTERNATE USE OF THE PUMP BETWEEN BOTH BREASTS.
AS A GUIDE, WE SUGGEST THE PUMPING PROCESS NOT EXCEED A MAXIMUM OF 7
        MINUTES ON EACH BREAST.
        1. Rotate dial (6) anticlockwise until it can turn no further. The pump is now set on the
lowest suction pressure as indicated by the letter “L”. It is advisable to always start on this
low setting. Note: In Figure 5 below, the pump is set on maximum suction.
        2. Hold the funnel (8) to your
           breast and ensure that
           your nipple is centred
           on the funnel ring
           insert (9). Apply
                                                               Figure 4
           light pressure
           against your
           breast to
           assure a
           comfortable
           fit and to
           enhance
           suction
           efficiency
           (see figure 4).
        3. Slide power
           switch (4)
           to the “ON” position.
        4. To find your comfort zone simply adjust the
suction pressure. Rotate the dial (6) to your
left to increase suction, rotate it to your right
           to reduce suction.
        5. The PUSH-button (5) at the centre of the
dial acts to stop or start the suction - by Figure 5
pushing the button in or by releasing it.
You can thus imitate baby’s suckling rhythm and maintain a natural and comfortable
           flow of milk.
        6. When you have expressed the amount of milk required, press the button (5) to
interrupt suction. Remove the pump from your breast then slide the power switch
           to the “OFF” position.
        7. Switch off the adaptor at the mains power and disconnect.
        8. Unscrew breast funnel from bottle and clean according to instructions as soon as
           possible.
        9. Use the screw cap and sealing disc set (13) to seal the NUK bottle securely.

                                                                                                 –5–

        Important information about using batteries
        • If you intend to use batteries, avoid the inconvenience of running out of power. Always
keep a spare set of fresh REPLACEMENT batteries handy.
        • If you decide to stop using your NUK breast pump for a long time, REMOVE THE
BATTERIES from the battery compartment. Prolonged storage of the NUK breast
pump - with batteries in it - may damage the pump housing and render the
          pump inoperable.

        STORING BREAST MILK
If you intend to use the expressed breast milk later, immediately store the sealed NUK
bottle in your refrigerator. Breast milk may be stored in this way for a maximum of
        48 hours.
Stored breast milk assumes a two-layered look because the milk fat content rises to the
top. When ready to feed baby, gently shake the bottle and the milk will regain its original
        uniform appearance.
If you wish to store breast milk for a longer period, you may freeze it - in a deep-freezer or
in a frost-free freezer compartment - for up to three months. However, the milk must
first be transferred and hermetically sealed into a pre-sterilised container suitable for
deep-freezing. The NUK bottle is not designed for this purpose so it should not - under
any circumstances - be used to deep-freeze milk.
Always label stored milk with the date and time of storage. Always use the oldest
        milk first.
It is recommended that you defrost breast milk by transferring it to the highest shelf of
your refrigerator and by keeping it there until it has defrosted completely. Allow sufficient
time for it to thaw out slowly. DO NOT re-freeze milk that has already been defrosted.

Important information about long term storage
If you plan to freeze expressed milk for an extended period of time, we recommend that
you seek expert advice from your Health Clinic or midwife.

        Important information about microwave ovens
        • DO NOT DEFROST BREAST MILK IN A MICROWAVE OVEN, PARTICULARLY IF THE
CONTAINER IS SEALED AS THIS MAY CAUSE AN EXPLOSION.
        • DO NOT HEAT BREAST MILK IN A MICROWAVE OVEN. THIS PROCESS DISTRIBUTES HEAT
UNEVENLY AND “HOT SPOTS” IN THE MILK COULD CAUSE SEVERE BURNING.

                                                                                                –6–

        CLEANING THE NUK BREAST PUMP
        A. Cleaning the pump
To maintain the pump at its optimum performance level and to prevent clogging, it must
be flushed after every use. Proceed as follows:
        1. Insert the wide end of the small funnel-like cleaning tube (11) into the pump-housing
join (7) as shown on figure 6.
        2. Immerse the tip end of the cleaning tube into
a container filled with warm to hot water.
        3. Slide the switch of the pump to the “ON”
position and allow the water to “backwash”
through the pump for 30 seconds.
        4. Raise the tip of the cleaning tube out of the Figure 6
water allowing air to be pumped through
and thus expel any water remaining in
           the pump.
        5. When water ceases to be flushed out, turn
the pump off and detach the cleaning
           tube from it.
Switch off adaptor at the mains power and disconnect it - from the pump -
before proceeding any further. If batteries are installed, remove them.
        6. The pump housing should NEVER BE IMMERSED IN WATER, exposed to steam,
microwaves or extreme heat. Just wipe it with a clean, dampened soft cloth. In doing
so, pay particular attention to the join part (7).

        B. Cleaning other parts
        7. All other parts of the NUK breast pump kit must be thoroughly washed and rinsed as
soon as possible after every use. Ensure that all milk residues are removed as any
remaining traces may cause bacterial growth. DO NOT WASH ANY OF THE PARTS IN A
DISHWASHER OR IN A MICROWAVE STEAM STERILISER.
        8. The same parts must also be sterilised daily. Ideally, this should occur after every use.
You may do so by using a NUK Steam Steriliser. If not available, a suitable alternative
would be by water-boiling the well-submerged parts for five minutes.

        Clean storage
Your NUK breast pump must always be stored in a clean, hygienic condition. The best
approach is to store all of the parts in the original box in which the pump kit was
        purchased.

                                                                                                –7–

          FEEDING BABY AND
          THE NUK BOTTLE
When you are about to feed
          baby the expressed milk, it
          may be comforting to know
          that you have at your
          disposal one of the most
          advanced bottle-feeding
          systems anywhere.

          Please refer to the NUK
          ANTI-COLIC* AIR SYSTEM
          diagrams.

          The NUK ANTI-COLIC* teat
included in the kit is a
          Silicone Age Group 1
          (0-6 months) medium
          hole for milk.

          The NUK ANTI-COLIC* teat
          is in the correct position
          when the AIR SYSTEM valve
          is visible, pointing upward
and the nipple part is inside
          baby’s mouth, with the
          feeding hole aimed at
          the palate.

                                                                   –8–

        GENERAL CARE AND ATTENTION
        • WARNING - DO NOT OPERATE THIS BREAST PUMP NEXT TO WATER. ACCIDENTAL
