A NOTE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Members,

It is truly an honor to serve as the President of FASL this year. I look forward to working with
each of you in fulfilling our mission. Together, we will create lasting friendships while
improving the community in which we live!

Last year, FASL contributed approximately $40,000 of direct financial support and completed
over 2,000 volunteer hours to support local non-profit agencies, FASL programs, and various
community endeavors. We have many volunteer opportunities this year and I am sure that you
will find your experiences with FASL to be rewarding.

This year, we have approved the following placement opportunities: Adopt a Family, Big
Brothers and Big Sisters, Books in Hand, Bragg Hill Family Life Center, Ferry Farm, Head Start of
Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania, Healthy Families, Project in a Day ~ Great Train Race, Stafford
Junction, Inc., Salvation Army Bell Ringing and Summer Scholars.

We will also generate three fundraising events: Junior Cotillion, Merry Market and Book &
Author.
                                                                                               -2-

Beginning in September, etiquette and dance classes will be offered through our Junior Cotillion
program. Jr. Cotillion is a unique experience that gives 6th, 7th, and 8th grade children the
necessary confidence for future endeavors. Etiquette, dancing, food and fun are the ingredients
that make this a worthwhile choice for your volunteer hours!

Our 4th Annual Merry Market Boutique Craft Show will be held in November. A preview party,
The Jingle Bell Cocktail, will kick off the event weekend, where we welcome artisans and quality
craftsman to our two day show. You will enjoy volunteering your time at this fast paced and
exciting event!

FASL’s Book & Author event will be held in the spring and will feature author, Maggie
Stiefvater, of the popular teenage novel, Shiver. The Book & Author committee is beginning to
plan for this event and your ideas are welcome!

I urge you to contact our Placements Chairs (Sylvia Allen and Lyn Murray) for more information
about placement opportunities and our Fundraising Event Chairs (Jr. Cotillion ~ Donna Gaul
and Elizabeth LeDoux, Merry Market ~ Kristie McDowell and Cindy Steinbach, Jingle Bell Cocktail
~ Stephanie Maxwell and Karli Murray, Book & Author ~ Ann Loncar and Mary Beth Boone) to get
involved in planning and volunteering for our fundraisers.

As you know, the impact that the League makes in our community is possible because of the
dedication of our members. It is only through your commitment that we can continue to “Make
a Difference for Children” year after year.

Thank you for your time! I look forward to working with you all and anticipate a successful
year!

                                                         - Jessica H. Beringer

NLISTHELP.COM
Jessica Beringer (jhberinger@gmail.com)

We are planning to use the site, www.nlisthelp.com this year. nListHelp is a simple and secure
online group organization tool. This site will allow our members to access information about
FASL in real time. We are hoping that this will keep everyone more informed about volunteer
opportunities throughout the year.

All members should have received an email from nlisthelp.com inviting you to become a
member. Many of you have already signed up for this service.

Once you are a member of this site, you will receive bulletins, can keep track of our calendar of
events and can sign up for volunteer opportunities through the nlists.

If you need to post a bulletin for the entire league, you will use the same process of sending your
request to Karin Eckerson, Corresponding Secretary, who will then post it on the nListHelp site.
All bulletins are sent via email to notify the nListHelp members.
                                                                                                     -3-

If you would like to post a sign up for the entire league (hospitality, placement volunteering),
please contact Jessica to do this and she will set it up for you.

Please take a look at the site and get registered. If you need assistance, please contact Jessica at
310.0719.

All FASL members need to register before the end of the month, as this will be our main
league communication, beginning in October.

SPONSORSHIP
Jennifer Taylor, Chairperson (mjcjtaylor@comcast.net)
FASL's "Merry Market a Boutique Craft Show" has many sponsors supporting this great event
and the Sponsorship Drive is not over. Total sponsorship amount to date: $8,200. During the
September General Meeting, I shall request sponsorship contacts from FASL members. Please
include the business name, address, point of contact, and a personal note from you to include in
the sponsorship letter. Each sponsor will be listed in marketing material and during all events for
the 2010-2011 FASL year and shall receive admission tickets to the Jingle Bell Cocktail, Merry
Market show dates, and the Book & Author event based on sponsorship level.

Thank you so much to our Sponsors. With their support, we are able to offset the costs for vital
marketing material, advertisements, and more. Therefore, ensuring the profits from FASL events
go directly to the children's charities the League supports.

MERRY MARKET 2010
Jingle Bell Cocktail – Friday, November 5th

Open to the Public - Saturday and Sunday, November 6th and 7th

   Karin Eckerson, Vendor Coordinator (merrymarketshow@gmail.com)
We only have four booths still open for vendors at Merry Market 2010. The offerings at
Merry Market are fabulous this year including jewelry, children’s items, original artwork, bath
and body products, accessories, pewterware, stationery and more! If you are on Facebook
please “fan/like” the Merry Market page and you will have photo updates at your fingertips.
Spread the word about the Facebook page as it is a great way to get this fundraising event
   on people’s calendars!

   Karen Franklin, Marketing Coordinator (chrisandkaren@verizon.net)
The Merry Market and Jingle Bell Cocktail committees have been working all summer long
to put together another great event this year. Now the time is coming that we need to all
work together to get the word out there! We will be looking for volunteers at the next two
FASL meetings to help us display posters, distribute postcards, and stake out some yard
signs. This is a great way to earn fundraising hours, so please consider helping us. We are
also lucky enough to have 2 extra banners this year, advertising Merry Market. If anyone
                                                                                             -5-

has a business, or knows of a location or event where we could post a banner that would be
seen by many, please contact Karen Franklin at chrisandkaren@verizon.net .

Stephanie Maxwell, Jingle Bell Cocktail Chairperson (jinglebellcocktail@gmail.com)
Jingle Bell Cocktail is November 5th from 7 to 10 p.m. We're super excited and hope to see
you there! Our goal this year is 200 guests. In order to reach our goal, we have lowered the
ticket price to $35 dollars per person, opened the event to the public, and started an inner
league competition where the winner will take home cash! We'll be distributing and mailing
invitations, as well as forwarding an email to all members with the invitation in a pdf format
after our September meeting. So, round up your girlfriends, dust off that little black dress
and join us November 5th for wine, appetizers and ,of course, great shopping! The more the
merrier! For tickets or questions email us at jinglebellcocktail@gmail.com.

BRICK SALES
Telly Salafia, Chairperson (tellyalbrite@yahoo.com)

The annual sales drive for The Bricks at Kenmore is on! These bricks are a great way to honor a
friend or family member, or to commemorate a wedding, birth or other special event. The price
is $50 per brick, which is considerably lower than the price of other bricks downtown ($100 each
at the Fredericksburg Museum, for example!) We will place our order in April, so be sure and
tell anyone who might be interested! Contact Telly Salafia at tellyalbrite@yahoo.com with any
questions.
