Virgin Mobile and 5FM are thrilled to announce that Maroon 5 and One Republic will
be performing live in Durban as an extension of the Virgin Festival series! This one-
night only performance is scheduled for ICC, Durban Arena, Sunday 14th December

“We're delighted to extend the reach of the Virgin Festival to Durban’s steamy tropical
climate where the Virgin Mobile fans will pop and rock in style,” said Nicholas
Maweni, Virgin Mobile’s Head of Corporate Affairs.

Maroon 5 was formed with only two members at the French Woods Film Festival;
expanding in Los Angeles to the 5 Grammy Award winning members the world was
introduced to. The band enjoyed phenomenal success with their debut album Songs
About Jane going platinum and triple platinum in many countries.

After a hiatus of 5 years the band was back with their 2nd studio album, I Won’t Be
Soon Before Long. The album debut at number 1 on the Billboard 200 with first week
sales of nearly half a million. The album has since sold 1.8million records in the US
alone and over 10 million world wide. From their first single It Makes Me Wonder it is
clear that Maroon 5 has once again captured all of the elements that create a
universally appealing pop rock song. “The album is aggressive, upbeat and
pounding”, says lead singer Adam Levine.

In 2006 the group; Adam Levine (vocals, guitar), James Valentine (guitar), Jesse
Carmichael (keyboard), Mickey Madden (bass) and Matt Flynn (drums) earned
another Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for a live
recording of their international hit single “This Love.” For all their success, the band
members have stayed true to their believes in a sense that they are making music
that has positive messages and speaks about issues they are concerned about like
the environment, while still producing great music.
American Rock band, One Republic hit the public eye with their smash hit Apologize
in 2007. Prior to that the band has had moderate success but was recognized by main
stream media after the smash hit. Their debut album was released in the US 2007, with
international release dates staggered throughout early 2008. As of June 14, 2008,
Dreaming Out Loud had sold 761,298 copies in the U.S. with the bands total album
sales coming to over 1.5 million worldwide so far. The band's second single, Stop and
Stare, has also crossed the 2 million mark in terms of worldwide single sales. Folks talk
a lot about fate and timing; two things One Republic knows quite well. Having
ricocheted back-and-forth between near-success, disappointment, and fruition, One
Republic has stayed true to their dreams - and seen them come true in ways they
could never have imagined. Tedder holds that “there are certain things that are
within your control and that’s how hard you work, how determined you are, how
much you want it, but you can’t control timing. It’s going to happen when it’s meant
to happen, and right now, that’s how it is for One Republic. It took a long time but all
of this has come at the right time.”

Helen Graham, 5FM’s Station Manager commented at the announcement, “5FM has
a strong listener base in KZN and we’re very excited to be able to bring One Republic
and Maroon 5 to our Durban listeners this December. One Republic and Maroon 5
have had, and continue to have, success on 5FM and we’re sure that our listeners will
be as excited as we are to see them perform live.”

Both Maroon 5 and One Republic will feature on the upcoming Virgin Festival by
Virgin Mobile in Johannesburg and Cape Town together with a host of local and
international bands. Durban however; has the honour of hosting the two bands at the
ICC, Durban Arena for a once in a lifetime performance.
