                                                    FADE IN:

INT. MEDICAL LAB

A coffin-like metallic box sits in the middle of a room
surrounded by medical equipment humming and beeping away.

                         NARRATOR (V.O.)
               By 2057, it is corporations,
               not governments, run the
               world. Their power, the power
               to affect the lives of
               billions of people, lies in
               the virtual reality world of
               the Internet, most commonly
               called, The Net. In their
               efforts to establish dominance
               over each other, the
               corporations have hired elite
               hackers from around the world
to wage a cold war on the Net.

The scene moves around to show the face, vaguely resembling
SHAE, of the person in the box.

                         NARRATOR (V.O.)
               Some hackers, now called
               agents by the corporations
               they serve, have elected to
give up their lives in the
               real world, and exist full
               time in The Net.

The scene pans to show a monitor. On the monitor a girl
sits in a park. The scene zooms in on, then through the
monitor, and follows a spark of electricity through the
wire until a white flash blanks out the scene.

EXT. DOWNTOWN PARK – DAY

A space between two buildings that functions as a park.
Trees and benches are mixed throughout.

SHAE BUNKER is sitting on the back of a bench, looking at
herself in a mirror hovering over her palm. She is in her
mid-20s, slightly on the short side, with shoulder length
                                                             3

blond hair and blue eyes. Her toned physique is covered by
stylish clothing that still allows her full range of
motion.

                          SHAE
                      (to herself)
In the real world, you have
to pay for these kinds of
looks. Here on the Net, they
pay you. Looks like you made
               the right choice, SHAE.

With a motion, the mirror disappears from SHAE’S hand. She
glances around, then opens her palm again, with a clock
appearing.

                          SHAE
               Bloody Randall had better be
here soon if he wants to get
               paid.

RANDALL turns the corner, glancing over his shoulder as he
does. His Slavic features appeared highlighted in his
avatar. He casually strides over to SHAE.

                          RANDALL
               Hey Shae, what’s happening
               babe?

                          SHAE
               Don’t babe me, you idiot!
Did you get it? What took you
               so long?

RANDALL puts his hands up in mock defense.

                          RANDALL
               Whoa, chill out damochka. I
got it, I got it. Thought I
picked up a tail back around
Orbton, but I’m sure I lost
               him a few nodes back.

                          SHAE
               You bloody well better! I’m
               not planning on risking my
               life today. Give it here.
                                                              4

RANDALL hands SHAE a glowing blue stick the length of his
palm. It disappears when she touches it.

EXT. DOWNTOWN SCOPE VIEW– DAY

SHAE and RANDALL are watched through a high tech scope.
Their voices are heard over a speaker.

                          RANDALL
               Careful with that, lyubovnik.
               It’s got nasty encryption on
               it. All CorDyne’s plans are
               there. Those sneaky svolochi
               are…

The view jerks as a loud shot is heard. RANDALL is knocked
off his feet and begins to disintegrate.

                             RANDALL
               AAGGHH!!...

EXT. DOWNTOWN PARK – DAY

SHAE looks stunned as RANDALL disappears. After a moment,
she stumbles back, right before a bright flash travels
through where she stood and another shot is heard. Her
whole body jerks.

                             SHAE
                         (as she turns to run)
               Shite!!

EXT. DOWNTOWN ROOFTOP – DAY

A powerful looking rifle dematerializes from the hands of a
LEAD AGENT clad all in black. The tall man stands and
watches SHAE flee the area.

                          LEAD AGENT
               Lead to Two. Target tagged
               and headed your way.

                             AGENT TWO (O.S.)
                                                             5

Copy Lead. On my way. Two
               out.

The AGENT turns and begins to jog along the roof in the
same direction as SHAE.

EXT. DOWNTOWN STREET – DAY

SHAE runs through a moderate crowd on the street.

                            SHAE
               Shite! Move! Shite shite!

Ahead of SHAE, a woman wearing a red CorDyne agent uniform
turns the corner towards her.

                          SHAE
               Oh bloody hell…

                          AGENT TWO
               Stop right there!

A pistol appears in AGENT TWO’S hand. SHAE begins to
change direction.

                          AGENT TWO
               Stop or I shoot!

SHAE continues to change direction as AGENT TWO raises her
pistol and fires at SHAE. SHAE dodges and uses the
scattering crowd for cover as she runs down a side street.
AGENT TWO fires twice more, the second shot hitting SHAE
and causing minor damage.

EXT. DOWNTOWN SIDE STREET – DAY

SHAE runs down the nearly empty street, looking behind
herself occasionally to check where AGENT TWO is located.
About halfway to the next major street, AGENT THREE turns
the corner in front of her.

                             AGENT THREE
               Freeze!
                                                              6

SHAE skids to a stop and turns to the nearest market site.
AGENT THREE fires his weapon twice. The first shot hit’s
SHAE’S arm, but causes little damage, while the second
flies by to strike a display on the street.

                           SHAE
               God damn… Ergh!

SHAE dives into the portal of the nearest market site.

                          AGENT THREE
               She entered a market site!
               I’m going after her!

                             LEAD AGENT (O.S.)
               Copy Three. Stay in contact.

INT. MARKET CLOTHING STORE – DAY

SHAE runs through the store, oblivious to the stares and
shouted questions being thrown at her.

                           SHAE
               Move! Outta the fuckin’ way!

SHAE quickly traverses the store and exits the portal on
the opposite side.

EXT. DOWNTOWN SIDE STREET – DAY

SHAE stumbles back onto the street, and spins quickly to
put her back against the wall out of sight from the portal.

                          SHAE
               Shite, where are they?

SHAE opens her palm and a hologram of the area appears with
her location in the center and three red dots around her
closing in.

                           SHAE
Fuck! I didn’t sign up for
               this!
                                                              7

SHAE looks around, trying to find some way of escape. Her
fists ball up in frustration and the map disappears. Her
face contorts into a snarl.

                          SHAE
               Gggrrrraahhhh! Fine! That’s
how they want to play? Let’s
               fuckin’ play!

A red pistol-like weapon materializes in SHAE’S hand. SHAE
takes a deep breath, slowly lets it out, pushes away from
the wall while she turns, and charges back into the store
she just vacated.

INT. MARKET CLOTHING STORE – DAY

SHAE bursts in through the portal and immediately spots
AGENT THREE cautiously moving through the store. SHAE and
AGENT THREE fire at the same time, but both shots go wide.
SHAE dives behind a display rack, then scrambles to get her
feet back underneath her as shots from AGENT THREE rip
through the display.

                           SHAE
                       (to herself)
Wait for it… Wait for it…
               Go!

SHAE leaps out from behind the display, firing in the
general direction of AGENT THREE. AGENT THREE tracks SHAE
with his shots. The first three shots go wide, but the
forth hits SHAE in the hip, knocking her off balance and
causing her legs to tangle. As SHAE falls, she focuses her
aim and fires at AGENT THREE one more time. The shot hits
and AGENT THREE is enveloped in electric blue sparks.

                             AGENT THREE
               Aaaggghhhh!

The intensity of the sparks increase, and AGENT THREE
begins to dematerialize from his feet up, screaming until
his mouth disappears. In seconds, AGENT THREE is gone.
SHAE picks herself up off the ground and notices for the
first time the other patrons cowering in fear of her.

                             SHAE
                                                             8

               Hmph. Sod off wankers!

SHAE glances around, remembering there are still two
CorDyne agents searching for her. SHAE heads for the
portal she initially dove through to escape AGENT THREE.
Breathing heavily, SHAE raises her weapon as she nears the
portal, preparing herself for the inevitable attack. As
SHAE steps onto the street, a flash of movement out of the
corner of her eye causes her to throw herself forward into
a roll as a shot from AGENT TWO flashes behind her.

                            SHAE
               Ermfffuck!

EXT. DOWNTOWN SIDE STREET – DAY

SHAE completes her roll and spins to face AGENT TWO while
coming to her feet, her weapon leveled at the red-clad
agent. AGENT TWO has her pistol aimed at SHAE as well, but
it is trembling ever so slightly.

                          AGENT TWO
Lower your weapon and you will
               not be harmed further.

                          SHAE
We both know you are tied into
               your partner’s telemetry, so
you know one shot is all it
               will take. I haven’t missed
               at this distance since basic
               training.

                          AGENT TWO
Continue to resist and I will
               not hesitate to use deadly
               force.

                          SHAE
You’ll get at most one shot,
which we both know won’t be
               enough. Don’t be a git.

SHAE and AGENT TWO remain still for a moment, while AGENT
TWO’S gun begins to tremble more noticeable. Finally AGENT
TWO lets her hands fall to her sides.
                                                              9

                          AGENT TWO
                      (makes a noise halfway
                      between a hard exhale
                      and a sob)

AGENT TWO turns and runs from SHAE. SHAE watches her run
for a moment, then fires.

                          AGENT TWO
               Aaaaaaagghh!

Seconds later AGENT TWO has also dematerialized. SHAE
lowers her weapon.

                          SHAE
Never said I wasn’t going to
               fire. Sodding duffer.

SHAE turns and heads to the next major street over.

EXT. DOWNTOWN STREET – DAY

SHAE walks casually onto the street, trying to blend in
with the rest of the crowd.

                           SHAE
                       (to herself)
Still one more out there, and
using the locator would be a
               dead giveaway, Shae. Looks
like its eyes only from here
               on out.

SHAE weaves through the semi-crowded street, trying to
blend her observation movements in with her movement
through the crowd. The more SHAE walks, the more confident
the final CorDyne agent is not able to track her.

EXT. DOWNTOWN SCOPE VIEW – DAY

SHAE is tracked by the same high tech scope as before.
When SHAE steps into a relatively clear area of the street,
the view jerks, a loud shot is heard, and a bright
                                                            10

projectile slams SHAE into the ground, but she does not
disintegrate.

EXT. DOWNTOWN ROOFTOP – DAY

The LEAD AGENT lowers the rifle scope from his eye, then
leaps off the rooftop to the ground three stories below,
landing lightly as if jumping off a curb.

EXT. DOWNTOWN STREET – DAY

SHAE lies stunned in the street, her body flickering, as
the LEAD AGENT calmly walks towards her. The rifle
dematerializes from his hands, after which he hooks his
thumbs in his pants as he nears SHAE.

                          LEAD AGENT
               Your avatar is critically
               Damaged, so don’t do anything
stupid. I don’t want to kill
you if that can be avoided,
but I do need the data packet
               you received earlier. Trust
me, the contents are not worth
               your life.

SHAE regards him carefully, then slowly raises herself to a
sitting position.

                          SHAE
How could you let me live
               after you just witnessed me
killing the rest of your team?

                          LEAD AGENT
               You knocked their avatars out
               of commission, but left them
               very much alive. It wasn’t
               necessary, and I appreciate
that. I’ve spent a good deal
               of time training them.

SHAE gets first one foot under her, then two, then slowly
stands up, wobbling slightly.
                                                          11

                          SHAE
               Not long enough then wanker.

                           LEAD AGENT
                       (slightly tilts head
                       to side, appraising
                       SHAE)
               I guess not. Now, please,
               hand over the data packet.

                           SHAE
                       (shoulders slumped in
                       defeat)
               Fine. Take your fucking data.
                       (SHAE begins walking
                       towards the LEAD AGENT)
               You’re bloody right it’s not
               worth my life.

SHAE opens her hand and the glowing blue stick appears in
it, she holds her hand out to the LEAD AGENT. He reaches
out and the data packet disappears as he touches it. The
LEAD AGENT gives a full body jerk, and his eyes meet
SHAE’S. His mouth opens, but before he can say anything,
his body is locked in place. SHAE drops her hand and a sad
smile comes to her lips.

                          SHAE
               Luckily, it’s not worth your
               life either, wanker. I think
the real tragedy here is that
               under different circumstances,
               we’d make a good team.

SHAE considers the thought for a moment as the LEAD AGENT’S
body begins to slowly fade out. SHAE opens her hand to
reveal the real data packet still in her possession.

                           SHAE
Too bad. See you next time
               slick.

SHAE limps away as the LEAD AGENT eventually disappears
completely.

EXT. SYMBACORP HEADQUARTERS – DAY
                                                          12

SHAE approaches the main entrance to the SymbaCorp site and
is recognized by the guard.

                          GUARD
               You know Agent Bunker, woman
to woman, you look like shit.

                          SHAE
Sod off Gilberts. It’s been a
shitty day, and the last thing
I need right now is lip from
               you.

                            GUARD
               Yes ma’am. Understood.

                           SHAE
                       (as she walks past)
               Hmph…

INT. SYMBACORP HQ LOBBY – DAY

SHAE walks in the main doors and turns right towards a bank
of elevators. She steps into one, turns to press a button,
and watches as the doors close.

INT. SYMBACORP LEVEL 37 – DAY

The elevator doors open and SHAE steps into the corridor.
Directly ahead of her a severe looking woman sits behind a
desk working on a terminal. SHAE walks over to stand in
front of the desk. She opens her palm to show the blue
data packet, then places her hand palm down on the desktop.

                          SHAE
               Agent Bunker, reporting
               mission accomplished, ma’am.

                           DUTY OFFICER
                       (not looking up from
                       her terminal)
               Acknowledged, Agent Bunker.

               How did I do ma’am?

                           DUTY OFFICER
                       (still not looking up)
               You have completed your
               assignment Agent Bunker. It
               is logged in the system.
You have no more than eight
hours to prepare for your next
               assignment. Dismissed.

SHAE back peddled a step, stunned by the fact she had
nearly died and her duty officer did not even care beyond
wanting her prepared for her next assignment. SHAE turns
and walks down the hallway, her face doing a poor job of
hiding the various emotions she is experiencing.

                           SHAE
                       (to herself)
               It’s the right choice. Right?
