Dual VIOS Fail Over Test Plan

 Test equipment

           1) Dual VIOS’s - <HOSTNAME> (VIOS1) & <HOSTNAME> (VIOS2)
           2) VIOC – <HOSTNAME>
           3) Network test server (used for external tests) – <HOSTNAME>

 Test schedule

           a) VIOS1 Failure

                     Simulate primary VIOS server failure.
Monitor/test VIOC & VIOS status and LAN/Storage connectivity during failure.
                     Reintegrate primary VIOS.
Monitor/test VIOC & VIOS status and LAN/Storage connectivity during recovery.

           b) VIOS2 VIOS Failure

                     Simulate primary VIOS server failure.
Monitor/test VIOC & VIOS status and LAN/Storage connectivity during failure.
                     Reintegrate primary VIOS.
Monitor/test VIOC & VIOS status and LAN/Storage connectivity during recovery.
 Test setup

       VIOC

           1) Ping all network interfaces from network test server
           2) Run test write on VIOC to SAN virtualized disk.
           i.e.
                  dd if=/dev/zero of=/mksysb/testfile bs=512 count=10000000

The above command will write a 5GB file called “testfile” to the “/mksysb” directory (ensure you have enough space)

           3) Check vscsi disk status and path using “lspath” on all hdisks
           i.e. $ lspath -H -l hdisk0
                  status name parent
                  Enabled hdisk0 vscsi0
                  Enabled hdisk0 vscsi1

           4) Check for errors in AIX errorlog

       VIOS

           5) Ping all SEA network interfaces from external server
           6) Check VIOS errlog
           7) Verify network adapter status and priority using “entstat”
           i.e. $ entstat -all ent20|grep State
                     State: PRIMARY
                     LAN State: Operational
                  $ entstat -all ent20|grep Priority
                   Priority: 1 Active: True

           8) Verify disk path status using “lspath”
           i.e. $lspath -dev hdisk4
                  status name parent connection
                  Enabled hdisk4 fscsi0 500507680140253f,0
                  Enabled hdisk4 fscsi0 5005076801402472,0
                  Enabled hdisk4 fscsi1 500507680110253f,0
                  Enabled hdisk4 fscsi1 5005076801102472,
