2007 State 4-H Fashion Revue by Kylie Deal, Youth Co-Chair On Saturday, May 26, 2007 over 90 participants from 30 counties across California participated in the State Fashion Revue. Our special guest this year was Luke Reichle from Secrets of the Red Carpet. He was a 4-H Diamond Star and is currently a recognized Hollywood expert in the field of costume and fashion design. He came and shared his experience in a workshop for our youth and generously supported our event. Other outstanding workshop presenters included Kaitlin Conklin from Siskiyou county doing a Recycled Clothing workshop, Sandra Brown of San Benito county showed us how to make needle pouches, Jeannie Williams from Kings County gave a demonstration on felting techniques and Lorraine Johnson of Santa Clara county was on hand to demonstrate modeling skills. A special Community Service Project was available to make heart pillows for children who have recently undergone heart surgery. Lunches were provided by the San Joaquin County Exchange Program for the participants. The youth challenged our judges in the high quality of products demonstrating originality that were presented. The Best of Show went to Paige Nordberg of San Joaquin County who completed a beautiful skirt using her Needle Arts skills. She received a Quantumlock serger that was donated by Bruce’s Sew Handy of Hanford, CA and Luke Reichle, Secrets of the Red Carpet. A special “Challenge” was given this year in sewing a handbag from a Simplicity pattern. We are interested in any ideas that 4-H youth might have for next year’s Challenge. Please contact us if you are willing to help with Fashion Revue or are interested in serving on the committee. A special thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success. We look forward to seeing you next year!
