Play These Two Amazing Courses in Freeport, Grand Bahamas Island

With its impressive combination of ecological wonders and man-made attractions, the two golf courses
in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island - The Reefs and the Lucayan - make it an obvious destination for
golfers looking for a little winter sunshine.

Grand Bahama is the fourth largest of The Islands of The Bahamas. It gets its name from the Spanish
"gran bajamar" – meaning "great shallows" – for the many flats and shoals in the waters off the island.
These flats and shoals stretch for miles off-shore, the emerald ocean rarely deeper than six or eight feet
until the ocean falls to fantastic depths off the Grand Bahama Bank, an ocean playground that rivals
even Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

Grand Bahama Island lies just 55 miles off the coast of Florida. From east to west it measures some 96
miles, rimmed with cities, villages, and cays that offer lasting evidence of the many different people and
cultures that have called the island home.

For almost 300 years of its early in its history, Grand Bahama was virtually uninhabited. Then, with the
Development of Freeport/Lucaya in the 1950s, and because of the island’s close proximity to Florida’s
east coast, it is now one of the most visited of all the Bahamian islands.

Grand Bahama Island is a unique destination. It allows visitors to combine a cosmopolitan vacation at a
world-class resort with the charm of historical fishing villages and undiscovered ecological treasures. It
has one of the world's largest underwater cave systems, three national parks, endless beaches, emerald
green water and enchanting marine life.

Golf on Grand Bahama Island:
With two, top-notch championship golf courses golf on Grand Bahama Island is as good as it gets.
The Reef Course
The Lucayan Course
Both hosted on a single, extravagant resort – Our Lucaya, a combination of Westin and Sheraton at Port
Lucaya in Freeport. Grand Bahama Island offers an incredible Golf in the Bahamas experience.

How to Get There:
The Islands of the Bahamas are served by two international airports: Nassau International Airport and
Grand Bahama International Airport. These two airports are served by almost all of the US domestic
airlines as well as airlines from Canada, the United Kingdom and Europe.

Travel to the Out Islands of the Bahamas is achieved via Bahamasair. Bahamasair offers regular
scheduled service to the Abacos, Exumas, and most of the smaller inhabited islands.

Travel to the Abacos and The Exumas can also be achieved via the Fast Ferry from Potter’s Cay in Nassau
– daily scheduled service is available. This is a great way to visit the Out Island. I highly recommend it.

Rental cars are readily available at both international airports.

Finally, I have been traveling to, and writing about, the Islands of the Bahamas for more than 25 years.
The Bahamas are my own, personal favorite vacation destinations. I love the emerald waters, the
glittering white sands, the friendly people, and the overall feeling of well-being. I have NEVER had a bad
experience anywhere in the Bahamas. I never miss a chance to hop on a plane and travel between these
most beautiful of islands. I truly hope that you enjoy your visit to the Bahamas as much as I always have.
