                         NEWSLETTER ~ NOVEMBER 2008

Another full and busy term and year is rapidly coming to an end. We trust that the efforts
by the Matrics this year will be richly rewarded. We wish them every success and
happiness for their futures. May they always remember their experiences and friendships
and maintain contact with the School.

         The group of 2008 Matrics who also attended the Prep School at their Induction Dinner

School closes on Friday 28th November with Final Assembly being at 14h30.

2009 reopens on Monday 19th January and a newsletter will be going out within the first
two weeks confirming dates and cricket fixtures!

Congratulations to Nicola (Davis) Felder (1987)
and Bruno on the arrival of their fourth child,
Justin Mark brother to Nathalie, Jessica and
Alexandra! Justin was born on the 26th September
at 18h16 in Berikon, Switzerland.

Devon Bouton (2005 ) is a proud father to Leah, who was born on the 4th September at
08h05! Devon and Rox are also engaged.

Jonathan Tufts (1988) and Robyn are proud parents to Kendyll Catherine, who popped
into the world on Thursday the 11th September. Older brother Daniel (almost 3) thinks she
is the best thing since jelly!

Craig Field (1986) and his wife Wendy are proud parents to their first born, Chloë. She is
now eleven months!! Craig is Area Manager for FNB in Klerksdorp, in the North West

Linda (Webber) van Eyk (1996) gave birth to little Taylor Elizabeth Ann on the 22nd
October 2008, 3.38kg, 51cm length.
Warren van Niekerk (1991) and his
wife Renate are living in
Pietermaritzburg. Warren is an
agricultural farm planner / consultant and
his wife lectures at the University in
Horticulture. They were blessed with a
son on the 25th March 2008 - Alexander.

                                      Rosalind May Cox (2002) married Jan Andre
                                      Gertenbach on Saturday 18th Oct 2008. The service
                                      took place at the Wartburg Lutheran Church in Kwa-
                                      Zulu Natal and the reception was held at Thorpe Lodge,
                                      Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Shane Attwell (2003) was spotted in the Weekend Post. He married Marissa Calitz on
their farm in Kirkwood in March this year.

It is with great sadness that we must report on the departure of:

Lloyd Kannemeyer (1981) earlier this year. He died in Cape Town and is buried in Port

Graham “Old Man” Mills (1972) passed away last Thursday 20th November at the age of
55. Graham was one of the pioneers of the College and a real character!

We extend our sincerest condolences to the friends and family. May they continue to live
in our memory.


The weekend will no longer be called the REUNION WEEKEND but FOUNDERS WEEKEND.
The second weekend of July will be booked for the FOUNDERS WEEKEND in the years to come.

The first draw of the new format at the beginning of this month was well-attended. It must
have been very gratifying for Greg Gilbert as one of the big supporters of the idea to
finally see some return from his huge contribution every draw!

The main prize winners were:

                                                                didn’t - you lost out! It
                                                                was sad, however, that a
                                                                number of people, who
                                                                indicated that they would
                                                                attend, did not arrive.

Jethro Naude (1997) is currently living in Sunset Beach, California and studying at the
California State University, Long Beach Campus for his MBA.

Amber Naude (2001) is completing her Law Articles at Deneys Reitz in Durban and plans
on travelling Europe and the USA for six months after her final exams.

                                                      function watching the Moraca
                                                      Grand Prix. Dr Michael Smith
                                                      (1989) and Gary Tilston (1989)
                                                      joined him in this adventure.
Chris Duigan (1986) has been
transferred to Cape Town and he
together with his wife, Marcelle and
son Liam (10 months old) will be
making their home in Somerset West.
Chris is Regional Manger of Africa
and Middle East and we wish them
well with their move.

                             Michael Noakes – then and now
A walk down memory lane - Michael Noakes (1954) visited Woodridge 54 years later and
spent a wonderful morning reminiscing about the things he could remember about
Woodridge. He remembers being put on a train in Rhodesia and spending a couple of days
on the tracks until he arrived in PE! Michael lives in Sydney, Australia and was out on
holiday and brought his wife Jan to see Woodridge.

Quentin Krog (2001) featured in the paper on the 20th October. His acting name is Ollie
in the show Shooting Stars on Mondays at 9pm on ETV!

Paul Lynch (1979) dropped us a line. Married for 16 years and has three children
Courtney 14, Victoria 12 and Richard 6. He has his own business exporting wool. Did
Ironman three years ago, climbed Kilimanjaro last year and in May did the Freedom Swim
from Robben Island to the mainland. Still very involved in lifesaving and happily living
in PE.

Greg Harvey (1982). His son Simon won the South African Motorcross Championship
for 2008 - the class was 50cc / 5-9 years olds and his twin brother, Brett came 3rd in the
same class. Congratulations proud dad!

                                 Congratulations to James Kamte (2000) for winning the 29th
                                 Metmar Highveld Classic on Sunday 19th October. This is
                                 the Sunshine Tour’s longest running Pro-Amm and was held
                                 at the Witbank Golf Club.

Angela English (1996) and Rachel Wang (1996) popped into Woodridge on the 20th
November. Angela is a Flight Instructor for the Progress
Flight Academy in Port Elizabeth and Rachel is based in
Taiwan and is an analysis for an American company called Allianz.

Alistair Gibaud (1989) is currently working for Thompsons Touring & Safaris in Cape
Town as Operations Manager. He lives in Pinelands in Cape Town. Married to Lindsey
for 10 years and has one daughter who is seven years old and in Grade 1.
