                                              Its scheme is now one of the best in the industry.
                                                Significant features of the new conditions are the improvements to the
                                              maternity leave allowances for female employees with more than three years’
                                              service, and the provisions for miscarriages and stillborn births.
                                                Its new maternity conditions, which will come into effect from February 1
                                              after the bank’s administrative software has been upgraded to accommodate
                                              the changes, are:
                                               •    0 –1 year’s service, still no benefit.
                                               •    1 to 3 years’ service, 15 % of pay plus the 45% UIF payout for four
                                              months. Employees not on UIF will receive 60% of their pay over the same
                                               •    Women with 3 years’ service and over will be paid 75% of salary for
                                              four months, i.e. 30% from Nedcor plus the 45% UIF payout. This is a 15%
                                              improvement on the previous provision.
                                               •    Women not contributing to UIF will receive the full 75% payment from

                                               •    Women who suffer miscarriages in their first or second trimester will be
                                              granted sick leave as prescribed by their medical practitioner.

                                              full pay from the time of the event.
                                                “These achievements were thanks exclusively to Sasbo,” Eugene Ebersohn
                                              told Sasbo News. Pointing out that no other union or staff association can
                                              match Sasbo’s exposure to the finance industry, he said: “Sasbo’s 30 different
