He also said his son’s resilience wasn’t
his only source of strength. Like they’ve
always been known to do for a Soldier in
need of support, his Army family rallied
around him.
“I worked at the Soldier and Family
Medical Clinic and they were a great
bunch of people,” said Trevor. “In less
than two hours before I got on the road to
go see TreShon, they collected $800 [to
help his travel costs.] They said go see
your son, go be with him.”
An 85 percent success rate may be
good odds, but it isn’t 100 percent.
Regardless, Trevor said he couldn’t fath-
om what his life would have been like had
his son fell in that 15th percentile.
“I couldn’t even imagine it,” said the
Soldier after an emotional pause. Trevor,
who seemed to normally have an other-
wise steadfast personality, paused again
before he added, “Before I knew the sur-
vivability rate, I thought he was ‘stamped’
and I wondered how long I would have
him for. But today, I couldn’t even imagine
him not being with me.”
