                                                          Meeting Installation Requirements 7

Installation on Windows
Before you install Parallels Hosting Suite 9.5 for Windows on your server, make sure
  the following requirements are met:
 Microsoft Windows 2003 Server or Microsoft Windows 2008 Server is installed on
      your system.
 An IP address is configured in OS prior to the product installation. The IP address
received via DHCP will be converted into a static one when you change IP pool.
 In order for your server to support domain performance configuring, enable QoS
      Packet Scheduler service.
 Internet Information Server (IIS) is installed on your system with WWW and FTP
      support.

Attention: Parallels Hosting Suite must be installed only with the IIS web server.
Otherwise, Parallels Plesk Billing might not work properly.

 Your server does not work as a Windows Domain Controller (neither primary nor
backup). If this requirement is not fulfilled, a system crash may occur during the
creation of domains with certain names.

Attention: Parallels Hosting Suite must be installed on NTFS partitions. We strongly
recommend that you install it on a clean server. Only the required operating system
components should be installed. If you have to choose a role for your server, select the
  Application Server role.

The following things should be taken in consideration before installing Parallels Hosting
  Suite:
 If you want to use SSI, ASP and FrontPage services, select the respective
components during the installation of IIS.
 If you want to install the Tomcat component, please make sure that the folder
where Tomcat will be installed has no national or special characters in its name.
The following characters are allowed: basic Latin characters, numerals, space and
      the following symbols: !#$%&()+,-.:;=@[]_{}.
 If you want to use ColdFusion:
 ColdFusion should be installed separately before installing Parallels Hosting
          Suite.
 If you intend to use ColdFusion support, ColdFusion should be installed on the
server with Default Web Site chosen on the Web Server Selection step of installation.
Otherwise, if you choose All IIS Websites, ColdFusion support will always be
activated for all domains that have physical hosting, regardless of the
          corresponding check box status.
 If you want to use Microsoft SQL Server DBMS support in Parallels Hosting Suite:
 Microsoft SQL Server should be installed and configured to use standard or
mixed security mode. By default, Microsoft SQL Server 2005 is installed.
Alternatively, you can select to install Microsoft SQL Server 2008, but there are
          the following prerequisites to it:
8 Meeting Installation Requirements

                 Windows Installer 4.5;
 Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 (it can be obtained with Microsoft .NET
                  Framework 3.5 SP1);
               Windows Server 2003 SP2 or higher.
 If Microsoft SQL Server is not installed, you can select Microsoft SQL Server
2005 Express Edition on Windows 2003 platform and Microsoft SQL Server
2005 Express Edition on Windows 2008 platform to be installed with
administrator name 'sa' and random password, which you can change later on
the Home > Database servers page.
 If you want to use external Microsoft SQL Server (in case it was installed before
Parallels Hosting Suite), you need to supply the required password on the Home
              > Database servers page.
 If you have AVG antivirus on your system, you need to disable it during Parallels
Hosting Suite installation, upgrade or template deployment, to avoid its conflict with
DrWeb. AVG detects drwebcom.exe as a virus and prevents file coping. This leads
          to the installation failure.
Due to the large quantity of various software available on the market, Parallels cannot
guarantee compatibility with all third-party software products, except when explicitly
stated otherwise. Please exercise special caution when using various antivirus and
firewall software that has issues with blocking of potentially dangerous programs,
because such software is known to malfunction when working on the server with
    installed Parallels Hosting Suite.

Installation on Linux
It is recommended that you install Parallels Hosting Suite on a clean operating system.
CHAPTER 2

10 Installing Parallels Hosting Suite for Windows

Installing Parallels Plesk Panel and
Sitebuilder
Parallels Plesk Panel is available through the SetupPlesk.exe installer, which
downloads and installs all the required prerequisites and components depending on
your installation choices. Select the custom installation type to install the Sitebuilder
component. The detailed instructions on how to do it are given below.

 To install Parallels Plesk Panel and Parallels Sitebuilder:
     1. Log in to your system as Administrator or another user with
        Administrator privileges.
     2. Make sure that you have the Parallels Plesk Panel installation package
ready. You can download the required Parallels Plesk Panel installation
package from Parallels Web site at
        http://www.parallels.com/download/plesk/products/.
     3. Run the Parallels Plesk Panel installer by running the
        SetupPlesk.exe file.
     4. The installer will check your system for required components and
determine whether your system is ready to install Parallels Plesk Panel
or not. If some of the required components are missing, the installer will
run Parallels Plesk Panel for Windows Prerequisites Wizard to install
the missing components. In this case, click Next > to proceed with the
installing the components and click Next > again after the required
        components are installed.
     5. Read the license agreement. Select the I accept the license agreement
option, if you agree with all terms and conditions stated in the license
agreement, and click Next > to proceed.
If your server already hosts domains on IIS 6.0 or mail accounts on a mail server
supported by Parallels Plesk Panel, you will be prompted to migrate the existing
data to Parallels Plesk Panel. Refer to the In-Place Migration to Parallels Plesk
Panel for Windows Administrator's Guide for more information.
     6. Choose the installation paths for Parallels Plesk Panel and its
applications (Destination Folder), Parallels Plesk Panel and its applications
data (Application Data Folder) and virtual hosts data (Virtual Hosts Destination
Folder). Click Next > to proceed.
     7. Choose the Custom installation type and click Next >.
Note: Sitebuilder is included into the Custom installation by default.
The next screen will prompt you to choose the Parallels Plesk Panel engine
components (database and web server) you want to use.
        1. Select the Microsoft SQL Server database engine.
Installing Parallels Hosting Suite for Windows 11

   2. Click Next two times.
8. Specify the administrator password for default login ("admin") used for
accessing Parallels Plesk Panel after the installation.
The password cannot be shorter than 4 symbols and longer than 15 symbols. For
security reasons, the password should be more than 8 symbols, and it should
comprise a combination of letters, numbers, and punctuation; dictionary words and
   proper names should be avoided.
9. Leave the Enable Shared W3WP Desktop check box selected if you want IIS
to allocate one shared desktop for all World Wide Web Worker
Processes to optimize server memory usage. Click Next > to proceed
   with the installation.
Windows has a notion of desktops where applications write their output to. By
default, IIS allocates a new desktop for each application pool it creates. However,
application pools do not have any graphical output and this could be a waste of
memory to allocate separate desktops for each of them. Leaving the Enable the use
of a Shared W3WP Desktop check box selected allows IIS to allocate one shared
desktop for all World Wide Web Worker Processes (W3WP). Note that sometimes
this setting could cause problems. Use the following Microsoft resources to obtain
   more information on this topic:
   http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;184802
   http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/f/?en/library/70bd36c1-fa5e-4da4-
   8daf-2a71916e5c031033.mspx
10. The installer will notify you that clicking Next > will install Parallels Plesk
Panel with selected options. Click Next > to proceed.
11. The installer will start the components installation process. When the
installation of is finished, click Finish.
The Panel will start working right after the installation is finished. If you chose to install
Acronis True Image Module, Parallels Plesk Panel will ask you to restart the system.
After the restart, Parallels Plesk Panel launches automatically.

To complete the initial configuration of Parallels Plesk Panel, log in to the Parallels
Plesk Panel running on your host at https://<your-host-name-or-IP>:8443. Use the
username admin (case sensitive) and the password you specified during the
installation. By default, the admin password is setup (case sensitive). Follow the on-
screen instructions to complete the initial configuration of Parallels Plesk Panel.
12 Installing Parallels Hosting Suite for Windows

Installing Parallels Plesk Panel and
Sitebuilder into Virtuozzo Containers
To install the Panel with Sitebuilder, obtain the following VZ standard templates and
     install them to a container.
      plesk-9.5.0.0
      sitebuilder_private-4.5.0.182_1.0
      msde
      dotnet2.0_frmwk-2.0.50727.42

To install the templates to a container, run this command:
     C:\>vzpkgadd <CTID> dotnet2.0_frmwk-2.0.50727.42 msde
     sitebuilder_private-4.5.0.182_1.0 plesk-9.5.0.0
where <CTID> is an arbitrary container ID number higher than 100, which is unique on
     the hardware node.

Warning: The order of templates in the command is important, please do not change it.

To complete the initial configuration of Parallels Plesk Panel, log in to the Parallels
Plesk Panel running on your host at https://<your-host-name-or-IP>:8443. Use the
username admin and password setup (both are case sensitive). For security reasons,
change the password upon initial login. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete
the initial configuration of Parallels Plesk Panel.
Installing Parallels Hosting Suite for Windows 13

Installing Parallels Plesk Billing
It is recommended that you have Shell access to your server in order to install and operate
Parallels Plesk Billing. Make sure you have full control over the settings in your environment
and your sensitive customer data is kept separate from other sites.

Note: Regardless to database type you choose for storing the Panel data, MySQL server is
installed during the Panel installation. In this section we suppose that you have the MySQL
   server.

 To install Parallels Plesk Billing:
   1. Download the latest application package from
      http://www.parallels.com/download/plesk/billing/.

   2. Unzip the package into %plesk_dir%\admin\htdocs\plesk-billing\, where
%plesk_dir% is the environment variable that stores the name of the
directory where the Panel is installed. Use special parameters to preserve
the file permissions set on the files/folders inside.

   3. Modify %plesk_dir%\admin\php.ini.
Turn on the following extensions by removing the leading ";" symbol from the following
      lines:
       extension=php_gd2.dll
       extension=php_mysql.dll
       extension=php_pdo_mysql.dll
Note: If a line does not exist in php.ini, add it to the file.
Modify the include_path value by adding ".;" to the beginning.

   4. Stop and start the PleskControlPanel service and PleskControlPanel
      application pool in IIS.

   5. Create a MySQL database for Parallels Plesk Billing to store information in.
To do it, run the shell command (by a single call):
      "%plesk_dir%\admin\bin\php.exe" -d auto_prepend_file=""
      "%plesk_dir%\admin\htdocs\plesk-
      billing\admin\install\include\createdb.php" <billing_db_name>
      <billing_db_login> <billing_db_password>
Here <billing_db_name>, <billing_db_login>, and <billing_db_password> stand for the
database name, username of the database administrator, and the administrator's
      password respectively.
14 Installing Parallels Hosting Suite for Windows

Note: If the database already exists, it will be overwritten.

6. Run the installation wizard by going to:
     https://<your-host-name-or-IP>:8443/plesk-billing/admin/install/

Note: The installation wizard will alert if your system does not meet the minimum
requirements. Please read the warnings and meet the necessary requirements or have
     your system administrator do it.

7. Accept the terms of End User License Agreement and click Continue.

8. In How would you like to install your configuration files?, select I will manually edit my
   config files.

9. Enter database connection information for Parallels Plesk Billing:
      Database type. Choose MySQL.
 Database host, name, username, password. Enter the user and database information from
         step 5.

10. Enter the URL to the directory containing Parallels Plesk Billing applications
    and libraries:
      HTTP URL. Specify http://<your-host-name-or-IP>:8880/plesk-billing.
