INFORMATION FOR FOREIGN FEE PAYING STUDENTS The following material is designed to give you some knowledge of the school; both in terms of services provided and those values which are important to us. FEES – Our current fees for foreign students are $7000 per year plus GST. This covers the following expenditure required at school including: - 1. Government levy 2. Teacher / teacher aide assistance for students requiring English assistance. NB – The amount of teacher / teacher aide assistance given will vary according to the number of children involved at the time and will be negotiable on an individual basis. 3. Fees do not cover – a) Stationery b) School trips, camps, etc. c) Cost of visiting performers etc. POLICY – The school has a policy for foreign fee paying students which includes the following point: - a) This school will not accept foreign fee paying students unless they are visiting N.Z. with their parents. FEE REFUND PROCEDURES – Any withdrawal payment of fees will result in a full refund less the following: - 1. An administration fee of 10% of the total fees paid i.e. $700 2. Actual tuition costs for that school term for that pupil. (See contract form) 3. That proportion of the Government levy the school is required to pay. ($900 per year) NB – All finances and percentages are indicated on the basis of fees being paid school term by school term in advance. FEE PROTECTION All fees will be coded separately and not spent until such time as tuition has been completed. CODE – Oratia District School has agreed to observe and be bound by the Code of Practice of the Pastoral Care of International Students published by the Minister of Education. Copies of the code are available on request from this institution or from the New Zealand Ministry of Education Website at http://www.minedu.govt.nz HEALTH AND TRAVEL INSURANCE – Most students are not entitled to publicly funded health services while in New Zealand unless they are: - A resident or citizen of Australia; or A national of the United Kingdom in New Zealand; or The holder of a temporary permit that is valid for two years or more. If you do not belong to one of these special categories and you receive medical treatment during your visit, you will be liable for the full costs of that treatment. We strongly recommend that you have insurance that will cover the cost of medical treatment in New Zealand for the duration of your stay. We also strongly recommend that you obtain insurance to cover your travel to and from New Zealand. Medical and Travel Insurance For Group Students The education provider shall advise all prospective groups of the medical and travel insurance requirements as per the standard wording in the Code of Practice. Group students should have combined medical and travel insurance. Group students purchasing insurance through a New Zealand insurer should have insurance cover before they leave their home country. Where insurance is provided from a New Zealand company, policy details should be provided in the group’s first language where possible. Where overseas polices are used, the group organiser should ensure a copy in English is forwarded to the education provider to ensure the policy is appropriate. Verification of Policies – Oratia District School must verify groups are in receipt of an appropriate Medical and Travel Insurance Policy. Verification of policies will be undertaken prior to enrolment. Recording of Policy Details – For each group Oratia District School shall record the following: - a) Name of Insurer b) Policy number c) Policy start and end dates IMMIGRATION – Full details of visa and permit requirements, advice on rights to employment in New Zealand while studying, and reporting requirements are available through the New Zealand Immigration Service, and can be viewed on their website at http://www.immigration.govt.nz APPLICATION PROCEDURES The parents must complete the enrolment form (attached) and produce the following documents before the application can be processed: - Passport Student visa Health insurance documentation CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCE The parents and principal signing an acceptance letter / contract indicates acceptance of our conditions for enrolment. ACCOMMODATION We will only accept students living with parents or designated caregivers appointed by the parents. ORIENTATION / SUPPORT SERVICES On arrival at this school, all foreign fee paying students will be personally shown around the institution by the principal or a senior management team member. The child will then be allocated to a class where the teacher will take responsibility for welfare and support ensuring the following items are dealt with: - 1. Stationery requirements 2. Socialisation in the playground 3. Ensuring the child catches the bus 4. Ensuring the child is aware of basic school rules. GRIEVANCE PROCEDURES If a student has any of the following problems: - 1. With subjects or teachers 2. School friends 3. Accommodation Steps: You or your parents can contact the principal If not satisfied, you may ask the board of trustees to consider the matter If you still feel your problems have not been solved, you may contact the International Education Appeal Authority, whose address is: International Education Appeal Authority C/- Ministry of Education PO Box 1666 Wellington You must be able to show them that you have tried to get the school to act before you contact them. They will consult the school to see if anything can be done to help you. If you do have a problem, please ask for help while it is still a problem. Do not wait for it to become a bit problem. If you are not confident that your English is good enough, you can always bring a friend who has better English. We hope your stay here will be a happy one. WITHDRAWAL Should a student’s attendance become erratic or have prolonged periods of unexplained absence (21 days or more) then the student will be taken from the school roll and NZIS will be notified. TERMINATION Normal school rules apply to international students and failure to comply with these may result in exclusion from school (in which case no refund will be given). Any false information or failure to disclose relevant information or should the school be unable to meet the needs of the student could also result in termination of the contract.
