    remains consistent. AP has hardware to monitor environment (i.e.
    temp) and compensate. QoS - If AP is oversubscribed data, client
    associated elsewhere.

WHAT UP WIT’ CAPWAP

 Control And Provisioning of Wireless Access Points
                     (CAPWAP)

 • Tunnel protocol between Controller and AP
 • CAPWAP is based in initial draft of LWAPP
 • CAPWAP is in IETF (version 10) draft pending approval
 • CAPWAP provides options for encrypting both Control and
   Data packets between AP and WLC using DTLS
 • CAPWAP also has option for binding 802.16 and EPCglobal
   protocols (currently we use only 802.11 binding)
 • CAPWAP supports only L3 mode

 • WLC uses AP-Manager Interface(s) to manage APs
 • APs discover WLC’s management address

 • In addition, CAPWAP does following things :
 • Control Messages between AP and WLC are authenticated/encrypted using
   DTLS
 • Optional data channel encryption between AP and WLC using DTLS (Not
   supported in 5.2 release, Talwar ( Next Gen WLC) will support it
 • AP automatically detects path-MTU during JOIN and also detects dynamic
   MTU changes during RUN state
 • CAPWAP protocol itself handles fragmentation and re-assembly function
WHAT UP WIT’ CAPWAP


  CAPWAP WLC supports LWAPP Control stack
  LWAPP AP initially discovers CAPWAP WLC using LWAPP
   Discovery and joins using LWAPP JOIN mechanism
  LWAPP AP after JOIN, will download CAPWAP Code
  LWAPP AP resets and starts CAPWAP Discovery and JOINs the
   CAPWAP WLC
  If WLC is downgraded back to LWAPP code, All CAPWAP APs will
   initially start CAPWAP Discovery
  Since there is no CAPWAP WLC in the network, CAPWAP APs will
   do CAPWAP Discovery=5 retries, with configurable timer (1-10)
   between each retry
  Upon no CAPWAP Discovery response, CAPWAP AP will now try to
   fallback to LWAPP Discovery mechanism and Discover LWAPP WLC

      This industry-leading solution detects, classifies, and locates
    sources of RF interference in the unlicensed 2.4-GHz and 5-GHz
       bands. The Cisco Wireless Control System (WCS) works in
    conjunction with Cisco Spectrum Expert Wi-Fi to provide visibility
      into non-Wi-Fi interference sources that may cause wireless
                        performance degradation.
