I think I speak for most of the committee when Toy Maintenance I say that we are looking forward to a well-earned break from Toy Library duty and a Felicity Harrop 5442 3629 chance to re-energise in preparation for a great year ahead. Publicity It has been busy as usual at the Toy Library. Our Family Fun Day was very successful, despite the inclement weather, and we enjoyed the company of many new and vacant current members. I think this event is a great way to promote the toy library and welcome new families in an open and friendly manner. Toy library closes – all returns due back Tue 7 – Sat 11 December DUTY OBLIGATIONS Stocktake As of next year, all new members joining the Toy Library will have the option to pay a $50 levy in lieu of duty and stocktake obligations. Existing members may also elect this Tuesday 1 February 2011 option when their membership comes up for renewal. Toy library reopens Committee members wanted! We have shortage of committee members able to staff Tuesdays early in 2011 while one is on maternity leave. We could close every fourth Tuesday. A more attractive option would be for another member or two to join the committee! The office bearing roles are taken so it’s not a big job... Do speak to one of us to find out more. UPCOMING EVENTS FOOD AND FUN STUFF Umm... you know, that toy CHRISTMAS CRAFT IDEAS Christmas bells: paint gum nuts with silver or gold paint and sprinkle with glitter. Tie festival involving reindeer and ribbon around the stem and hang on the Christmas tree. These look great! a fat man in a red suit. Usually starts early December. Wrapping paper or cards: cut out cardboard Christmas shapes for stencils and spatter paint over them with a toothbrush or dab paint over them with a sponge. Make prints by cutting shapes in potatoes and dipping in paint; or use toy animals to make a footprint pattern, toy cars, leaves – whatever you can stand washing up... GINGERBREAD BISCUITS (adapted from a recipe in The Age Good Weekend) My kids love making these. They make great Christmas bickies or gingerbread people. You can decorate with cachous (silver balls), icing, lollies, or leave them plain. WEBSITE Ingredients Don’t forget you can view the 200g butter 1 teaspoon ground ginger roster (and the newsletter) 1/3 – ½ cup white sugar ¼ teaspoon ground cloves online at: ½ cup brown sugar 1 egg ¼ cup treacle, molasses 4 cups plain flour www.vicnet.net.au/~bctl or golden syrup 2 teaspoons bicarbonate of soda 2 teaspoons cinnamon pinch salt Method Cream butter and sugar together. Add treacle, spices and egg and mix well. Sift together the flour, bicarb soda and salt and add to the butter and egg mixture a bit at a time, stirring well after each addition. Knead the dough gently to make sure it is well mixed and refrigerate for one hour. Preheat oven to 180°C.
