Post Title: Deputy Head of Development
Grade: 8

The team also includes an Alumni Relations Assistant, who reports to the Alumni
Relations Officer.
Key Responsibilities
1. Work with the Head of Development to design, develop and lead the
implementation of a long-term Development and Alumni Relations Strategy.
2. Build the Development programme by developing strategies to identify and
exploit new fundraising opportunities, including a Parents programme and
local community engagement.
3. Analyse key fundraising and alumni relations data, identifying weaknesses
and opportunities and refining the strategy to adapt to these.
4. Maintain a close understanding of best practice in annual giving and alumni
relations, to ensure activities and future plans remain efficient and relevant.
5. Ensure compliance with key statutory requirements and reporting obligations
– ensuring systems deliver accountability and audit compliance in particular.
6. Manage the Development and Alumni Relations team, setting targets and
monitoring performance, motivating and encouraging staff and ensuring that
planned activities are implemented with timescales and budgets.
7. Provide personal development support to staff and conduct annual appraisals.
8. Manage the Office’s budget, constantly seeking efficiency savings while
simultaneously identifying opportunities for growth and allocating necessary
resources to these.
9. Manage the implementation of the alumni relations programme of activities
and communications, working closely with the Alumni Relations Officer to
ensure it is implemented within appropriate budgets and timescales.
10. Manage the production of the alumni magazine and electronic
communications materials, working with colleagues across the College to
ensure key messages are adequately communicated.
11. Ensure that a compelling annual programme of events and reunions are
developed and delivered to offer alumni a chance to engage with one another
and the College.
12. Oversee the College’s annual giving and legacies strategy, working closely
with the Annual Giving Officer to build income, increase efficiency and
identify suitable targets for enhanced appeals.
13. Develop and implement a donor stewardship strategy which reflects the
importance and value the College places on philanthropic gifts.
14. Work with the Database Officer to develop a long-term strategy to ensure the
Office’s fundraising and alumni relations database is an accurate record and
that it effectively supports the activities, decision making and performance
monitoring needs of the Office and wider College.
15. Manage the Research Associate to ensure the identification of new prospects
and to establish a prospect management system which fulfils the College’s
needs.
16. Ensure that the Office’s administrative, financial and HR processes operate in
an efficient and accurate manner, sensitive to legislative and best practice
obligations associated with personal record-keeping, gift processing and donor
stewardship.
17. Deputise for the Head of Development as and when necessary.
These duties are a guide to the work that the post holder will initially be required to
undertake. They may change from time to time to meet changing circumstances.
