Manager, Communications The Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) is the ‘go to’ place for youth entrepreneurship. As a national charity, we are dedicated to growing our nation’s economy one young entrepreneur at a time. We look at character not collateral, when providing youth, age 18-34, with pre-launch coaching, business resources, start-up financing and mentoring, to help them launch and sustain a successful entrepreneurial business. Founded in 1996, CYBF has invested to date in more than 3,700 young entrepreneurs, whose businesses have created more than 17,100 new jobs, $106 million in tax revenue and hundreds of millions of dollars in sales and export revenue. CYBF delivers its program coast to coast through a national network of more than 150 community partners and 3,300 volunteers including business mentors. Position Summary: As a member of the CYBF team, the Manager, Communications will play an integral role in the continued growth of our Marketing and Communications Team. Reporting to the Director, Marketing and Communications, key initiatives will include planning, developing and managing strategic communications outreach to various stakeholder groups in order to promote and showcase CYBF and its extended network. The successful candidate will be a proclaimed go-getter who will work to create awareness of our organization which continues to grow exponentially in the youth entrepreneurship market. This role requires a seasoned communicator with experience in strategy development, exceptional written and verbal communications skills and robust project management and organizational sills. Bilingualism (English and French) is preferred. Critical Responsibilities: Communications o Internal communications strategy development, management and execution of internal newsletter, project updates and other internal initiatives o External communications strategy development - at the national and project levels. including key message development, audience analysis, etc. o Make key decisions on featuring young entrepreneurs, mentors, community partners and CYBF profiles o Write and gather all CYBF profiles and implement process efficiencies where applicable o Contribute written content to the CYBF blog, Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms o Research, write and edit communications to external (non-CYBF) newsletters, blog and other vehicles o Identify and secure internal and external contributions from stakeholders and experts for the CYBF blog o Outreach to and relationship management of external stakeholder groups including member networks, etc. o Research, develop and edit content for CYBF’s Entrepeer program and newsletter o Assist with the development of copy and content for promotional materials, website, etc. o Assist with brand building, public awareness and crisis management Administration / Other o Tracking outreach activities and provide regular and ongoing updates internally and externally o Manages all aspects of communications databases from development to content input o Liaises with other members of the Marketing and Communications teams to ensure all information is updated to the CYBF website and other information mechanisms o Prepare monthly progress reports o Assist in the copy development for marketing materials and programs both regional & national o Manage the translation process through external suppliers o Develop and maintain excellent relationships with CYBF volunteers, suppliers and management o Participate in strategic planning, brainstorming and new concept development Qualifications: Bilingual, English and French preferred Undergraduate Degree in Business, Public Relations/Communications or Journalism Five or more years of work experience in a high-profile organization where communications and media relations play a critical role A passion for entrepreneurship and, ideally, experience as a freelance writer or small business owner Proven track record of measurable communications achievements Experience with government, media relations and social media strategies and implementation Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a highly flexible writing style Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop and Outlook) Ability to meet deadlines under pressure and deliver projects in a timely manner Ability to write, edit and revise content, structure, and format of written material, with outstanding proofreading and copy editing skills Ability to perform in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a very high energy team Creative thinker Possesses leadership qualities and champions projects Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a team environment.
