SIGULER GUFF ANNOUNCES ENTRY INTO DISTRESSED REAL ESTATE INVESTMENTS;
HIRES SENIOR REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT EXECUTIVE JAMES S. CORL

New York, NY - March 2, 2009 - Siguler Guff, an independent, multi-strategy private equity firm with
over $7.5 billion in assets under management, announced today that James S. Corl had joined the firm.
Mr. Corl will serve as a Managing Director responsible for Siguler Guff’s distressed real estate
investment activities.

The firm will use Mr. Corl’s real estate investment expertise to help manage its existing investment
vehicles and also intends to develop one or more dedicated investment platforms to invest globally in
distressed real estate opportunities, both through outside managers and direct co-investment
opportunities.

Siguler Guff believes that the global evaporation of available capital, accompanied by severe economic
dislocation, will result in a dramatic deflation in real estate asset pricing. The firm believes that this
will ultimately lead to one of the most profitable real estate investing opportunities in recent history.
The firm anticipates that the collapse in real estate pricing will span virtually all areas of the world, and
all property types, resulting in both debt and equity investment opportunities in both public and private
formats. Siguler Guff will employ its wide-ranging distressed investing capability, together with Mr.
Corl’s track record and leadership in the real estate asset class, to provide its clients with access to
what promises to be an expansive investment opportunity set.

Mr. Corl said, “This is a great opportunity to work with a seasoned investment team in the midst of
incredible market turmoil. Siguler Guff is a leader in distressed investing and I look forward to
helping the firm capitalize on the distressed real estate opportunities on the horizon.” George W.
Siguler, Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of Siguler Guff, said, “Siguler Guff strives to
identify compelling opportunities early, and to create vehicles for our clients to optimally exploit those
opportunities. Jim is a great addition to our firm who will lead a world-class team to exploit distressed
real estate opportunities. We were very successful in the last deep distressed cycle for real estate in
our fund dedicated to buying RTC assets and look forward to the opportunities ahead.”

Mr. Corl joins the firm with 20 years of real estate experience, most recently as Chief Investment
Officer, Real Estate Securities for Cohen & Steers, Inc., a leading investment manager in global real
estate securities. At Cohen & Steers, Mr. Corl was directly responsible for over $30 billion of client
assets invested in mutual funds and institutional separate accounts around the world. During Mr.
Corl’s investment leadership, Cohen & Steers delivered industry leading investment performance for
its clients. Mr. Corl left Cohen & Steers in March of 2008.

Mr. Corl spent the early part of his career, which occurred during the last major collapse in the real
estate markets in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, in various positions within distressed real estate
investing. Mr. Corl was in the Real Estate Investment Banking Group at Credit Suisse First Boston
(“CSFB”) where he was responsible for acquiring portfolios of non-performing loans and distressed
real estate assets for CSFB’s real estate opportunity fund as well as restructuring troubled real estate

companies as publicly traded REITs. In addition, Mr. Corl was also involved in the early commercial
mortgage-backed securitizations of the Resolution Trust Corporation at CSFB. Previously, Mr. Corl
held positions where he both conducted investment due diligence on portfolios of non-performing
loans and distressed real estate assets and disposed of foreclosed real estate assets.

Mr. Corl holds a B.A. from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School at the
University of Pennsylvania.
