Congratulations Lightning Swimmers & Divers – undefeated this season 4-0!
Wow! We had a total of 234 individual Personal Best times this weekend vs Neshaminy.
MODIFIED PRACTICE SCHEDULE THIS WEEK See the team web site for details.
During the LM High School swimming season there will be weekly modifications to our practice
schedule when LMHS is racing at HOME. Please check the team web site each Sunday for details.

Eastern Division Team Championship Meet and Senior Boys Recognition/Appreciation Day.
Our fifth meet of the season is this Saturday 12/18 vs. Council Rock Aquatic Club. Our
original fall schedule had the Girls swimming at HOME however; due to an event scheduled
at LM high school the HS administration asked us to move our meet to CR.
During the boys meet we will recognize our 7 graduating senior boy-swimmers (after WU &
before the start of the meet): Tyler Cameron, Michael Flanagan, Jarred Gettes, Jimmy Long,
Matt Hirst, Joe O’Brian, and Shawn Walls. These wonderful young men have been
committed to our program & have been great role models to our younger swimmers. If any of
these young men has made a positive impact on your young athlete – Saturday is the perfect
day to give them a quick note or positive word.
GIRLS AWAY @ CR North HS in Newtown, PA. Girls arrive 10:45am/ WU 11:00am.
BOYS AWAY @ CR North HS in Newtown, PA. Boys arrive 2:45pm/WU 3:00pm.
All DIVING Thursday evening 12/16 @ HOME arrive 6:45pm. WU 7:00pm.
Parents please wear your Black & Gold to meets to show your support of our fantastic athletes. The
bleacher area is the place to promote great sportsmanship – your children learn from your example.
Being a spectator offers continual opportunities to be great ambassadors for our wonderful programs.
During a competition swimmers & divers are not to sit with their parents, they are expected to sit in the
team area with their teammates for the duration of the meet. Swimmers & divers are not to leave the
deck or area without asking permission from a coach.

ATHLETES OF THE MEET: We are proud of all of our team members but wish to recognize the following
team members for EXTRAordinary performances in the pool & on the deck (attitude, team work &

To limit the spread of illness to athletes & coaches, please do not send your athlete back
to practice after an illness until they are healthy and/or cleared from a doctor.
If your child has a skin condition or open sore/wound – DO NOT SEND THEM TO
PRACTICE. We do not want to embarrass the child but for public health reasons we will
    not allow them to swim/dive.
Please discuss with your children the importance of not sharing towels or using towels
that have been left behind at the pool. For Crossfit sessions each athlete should have
their own personal exercise mat or a towel (specifically for Crossfit that day) & one that
will not then be used for drying after practice.
OLDER ATHLETES: Remember that nutrition & adequate rest is imperative for a healthy
immune system. Keep on top of schoolwork and on top of deadlines, cramming and
stress can wreak havoc on our health. Regular participation in sports training can relieve
stress & boost the immune system. Get to practice when you are healthy so that times
of illness only become minor roadblocks or minor detours on the way to achieving your
swimming/diving goals. PARENTS: Keep in communication with the coaching staff if you
child is absent for more than one practice due to illness. Thank you & stay healthy

SWIM/DIVE MEET SIGN-OUT POLICY - IMPORTANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you cannot attend a meet you must sign-out on the team bulletin board by 8pm on the
Tuesday before the meet to be missed.. All meet sign-out sheets are posted on the team
bulletin board at the pool. In the event of illness on meet day, please send a message to the
coaches via the team email before 8AM on the morning of the
meet. Do not send messages on meet day with a sibling, teammate or neighbor – this will be
considered a meet no-show. Meet no-shows will be suspended from the next scheduled
meet. No-shows are unfair to the team & to the coaches who spend hours preparing a line-
up. If your athlete is ill on a Friday night – email them out of the meet on Friday night. It is
not likely that they will be ready to compete Saturday morning.
Thank you for your cooperation.

The next open Parent's Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 6 6:30-7:00pm. The
topic is: Swimming Parenting 101 – what are your expectations? The training group
committees will meet after the open meeting from 7:00-7:30pm.
Mark your calendars for future open meeting dates: 2/07 Monday, 3/01 Tuesday.

Each Monday the USA Committee has organized a soft pretzel sale. Thanks to Kathy
O’Dare for organizing this awesome & yummy fundraising program. The proceeds will
benefit all Lightning swimming &
The cost is .50 per pretzel. Thank you to the following families who have sponsored/donated
the pretzels for the first months of the sale: The Bell Family, Buzacki Family, Cochrane
Family, Cooney Family, Davis Family (Jen & Laura), DiMaria Family, Dougherty Family
(Emily), Grossi Family (Sam & Luke), Hirst Family, Hladczuk Family, Igoe Family, Johnson
Family, Killion Family, Meister Family, McGoldrick, McHugh Family, McSorley Family , Mills
Family, and Shipp Family. If you would like to sponsor a pretzel sale please contact Kathy

Mark your calendars! Place: Thunderbird Lanes 3081 Holme Avenue, Philadelphia
Time: 9:30 PM - 1:00 AM Cost: $25 per ticket (We are asking that each family please
purchase at least one ticket in support of the team). This is our biggest fundraiser of the
season, proceeds from the Beef & Bowl help to keep our registration costs low. I wish to
remind our 180 Lightning Families that registration fees were not raised this season and we
must use additional fundraising money to keep our program costs low. Each season we
make capital improvements to the pool as a gift to the Lower Moreland School District who
keeps our rental costs low. Last season we gifted a pool vacuum – cost $2,800. In the past
we’ve gifted starting blocks, lane lines, the Colorado Timing system, the timing system
storage facility, record boards, the training equipment (boards, extra fins, pull buoys), the
silver bleachers. Some items on our wish list for this season: a new laptop to run the home
meet computer, training equipment to replace old or worn equipment (buoys, fins, boards),
new racing flags and a team banner.
LMSD is a non-profit team - all fundraising money goes directly back to your athletes in the
form of pool equipment, team awards, pasta/pizza parties, team gift, etc...

At the boy’s meet vs Neshaminy a boy’s team suit & cap were accidently taken home by a
White Group member. The suit & cap will be returned to the pool on Monday. If you lost a
boy’s suit at the Neshaminy HOME meet, please email with
your name & the size of the boy’s suit lost so it may be returned.
   Reminder from the previous newsletter:
   Dear Lightning Team Members,
I am disappointed to report that we are having some issues with personal items being stolen from
the school & pool area. Please remind your athletes that nothing should be left in the locker room
during practice or meets. Athletes may bring a lock but the lock must be taken home daily – any
locks left overnight will be removed/discarded by the maintenance staff.
IMPORTANT Please discuss with your athletes:
If your child “finds” something in the locker room or pool area and takes it home – this is stealing.
Young swimmers often believe that a “found” cap or pair of goggles is not stealing. The intentional
taking of another’s persons belongings will result in dismissal from the team without refund.
At the boy’s HOME meet vs UDAC (1 meet on 11/13) a pair of UGGS men size 10 slippers were
taken from our team area. Also taken from our team area was a new pair of goggles and a book. If
your child took any of these items please return them to the pool office – no questions asked this
time. Open up this conversation topic with your young athletes.

The first few sessions of WHITE Group Crossfit have been a great success. Our Crossfit
Coach Terrence Fenningham will continue to offer optional introductory classes for
WHITE group team members on Thursday nights during December. The cost is $5 per
session per swimmer payable directly to Coach Terrence on the night of each session.
No advance payment. Future classes are subject to cancellation based on interest level.
The December schedule is as follows:
   12/16 White Group – Girls

We are accepting donations for the team snack bar. The profits earned from the snack
bar at home meets do directly back to the athletes in the form of equipment, team gift,
etc… We need donations of bottled water, individually packaged non-perishable snacks
(muffins, cookies), Power Bars, & Candy. The team will buy donuts, pretzels, hot dogs &
buns each week. Thank you to the Buczacki Family (Ava-BLUE, Hanah-WHITE) for for
donating 10 cases of Powerade to our snack bar.
Please label your donation with your family name & training group. Donations may be left
on the table next to the team bulletin board any night of the week.

Beef & Bowl – Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 5 .

As per Suburban Aquatic League Rules: All swimmers & divers must attend 40% of the
regular season meets (meets in November & December) to be eligible for the January
team championship meets and the end of season individual championship meets. Keep
this rule in mind as the busy holiday season & as cold & flu season approaches. Our
final regular season meet on December 18 vs. Council Rock Aquatic Club will determine
the East Division Champions. This is our most important regular season meet.

When registering for the Lightning team, each family acknowledged the acceptance of the
