Relevant Experience
I have been the Dame Kathleen Raven Professor of Clinical Nursing for 10 years. During that time I
have undertaken a variety of roles: Head of the Division of Nursing ; Co director of the Academic Unit
of Musculoskeletal Nursing ( ACUMeN) a collaborative venture between the Schools of Medicine and
Healthcare Studies at the University of Leeds and the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, the aim of
which is to integrate research, teaching and practice; Deputy Director of Learning and Teaching.

I am a nurse educationalist and researcher with an extensive range of publications and presentations.
I have experience of teaching a wide variety of pre and post registration nurses and of assessment in a
variety of situations. I have participated in validation panels and led programmes to validation.
Currently I am leading the development of an interprofessional masters programme in Advanced
Practice. I am experienced as an external examiner for educational programmes

I have experience in nursing and health services research. Current work involves setting up a study
with a visiting post doctoral research fellow to evaluate a programme of Tai Chi exercise for people
with rheumatoid arthritis and also a multicentre study which is evaluating of nurse led clinics for
patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The latter being funded by the Arthritis Research Campaign.
Recent work includes validating a questionnaire to assess the educational needs of patients with
rheumatic diseases and a study to evaluate the educational preparation for cancer nursing and palliative
care for children and adolescents funded by English National Board- As part of my work in the Centre
for Health Services Research at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne I was a member of a research
team that developed two questionnaires; one to measure patient satisfaction with nursing care and the
other to measure the salient features of the organisation of nursing at ward level. Both of these studies
involved extensive site visits for development and validation purposes. Other research work includes
the implementation and evaluation of care pathways and validity testing of measurement scales. Earlier
work includes developing a costing methodology for pressure sore treatment and the evaluation of
different wound drainage bags
