College Essay Grading Rubric You will have two grades for this project. Each grade is worth a test grade mark, thus please follow the directions as closely as possible. Your first grade will be on mechanics. Therefore, please proofread critically and have someone else help edit your work. I will take points off for each mistake by following the mechanics chart that I gave you from Mississippi State University. Your second test grade will comply with the following rubric: 4 This will represent the A range Essay answers the question with sincerity Essay illustrates the personality of the writer by employing a strong tone. At least one line or image should reflect the writer. To create tone the writer has utilized four of the following tools: effective details; narrative pace with a variety of sentence structures and syntax; imagery appealing to more than one sense; personification; metaphor; simile; antithesis; allusion; sound effects such as alliteration; assonance; and consonance; 99% of the paper is in active voice. When using passive voice or linking verb, the writer has used it to underline meaning 3 This will represent the B range Essay answers the question May not be able to see the personality of the writer To create tone, the writer has employed two of the preceding tools 90-99% of paper is in active voice. The writer does not effectively use passive or linking verbs. 2 This will represent the C range Essay answers only part of the question May not be able to see the personality of the writer To create tone, the writer has only used one of the preceding tools 80-90% Active voice 1 This will represent the D range Essay only makes reference to the question No personality illustrated in the essay at all. No effort to create tone No effort to put the paper into active voice.
