Now with its usual ability to stand truth and reason on its head, the banking sector has come out with 'banker-bashing' as a sort of pejorative for a fairly reasonable attitude to a group of 'spivs' on the make. Since so many of them are building expensive, prestige headquarters in the City and since so many are tied into the best private education in the world for their children, the most luxurious housing and a metropolis that offers every conceivable cultural experience, it will be a wrench to go. It is about time that someone began to quantify the damage done to the UK economy by the banking sector. It is not just the massive sums gouged from UK taxpayers to keep them in unrealistic bonuses, but their effect on the wider economy.
