Fourth Degree
Reach your Highest Potential
PATRIOTISM
The dictionary calls it:

       “A love and loyal support
           of one’s country.”
  ABOUT THE FOURTH DEGREE?
“Patriotism” is the principle of our Order.
Shortly after his election to the office of Supreme Knight
in 1899, Edward L. Hern formed a special committee to
design a new Degree.
The ceremonial was approved in August 1899, and the
first exemplification of the new Degree was on February
22, 1900 in New York City which coincided with
Washington’s Birthday.
The ceremonial for the Fourth Degree expounds on the
virtues of Catholic citizenship. To qualify for membership
at the time, one had to have ... served the ORDER, the
CHURCH, the COMMUNITY and the COUNTRY with
distinction for three years.
What is the Fourth Degree?
The Fourth Degree is the
highest and most prestigious
degree within the Knights of
Columbus.

The Assembly is made up of a
group of outstanding Knights
who are dedicated to the
service of their Church, Country
and the Order. These Sir
Knights exemplify the Fourth
Degree by supporting religious,
civic and charitable causes.
 The Regalia (Uniform)
  Of the Fourth Degree

The cape, chapeau, sword and
tuxedo were inspired by the naval
officers’ uniform of the late 1800’s.
The ceremonial sword is worn to
symbolize Christian Knighthood.
As Sir Knights, we defend our
Church, our Country and our
freedom as citizens. We also show
reverence for the Eucharist and
respect for the clergy.

                 Assembly 1670
                       Who are we?
On August 18, 1975 Father J.L. Reynolds Assembly name was
approved by the Supreme Council.

Our Assembly was named after an Ottawa born priest, who served in
many parishes. On the request of Archbishop Lemieux he formed a
new parish and built the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Alta
Vista. Fr. Reynolds was an ardent sportsman who loved playing tennis,
baseball, and his weekly round of golf.

The membership for the Assembly is mainly drawn from Districts 1, 79,
and 98.

We meet the first Wednesday of the month at St. Elizabeth’s Church,
1303 Leaside Avenue (off Merivale).Meetings start at 7:30 pm

The Assembly hosts two Pot-Luck-Supper meetings in November and
in March. The ladies are invited to attend these evenings, without a
formal meeting format minimum business is conducted.
