PRE-REQUISITES AND CO-REQUISITES

The LLB is a Qualifying Law Degree which complies with the
requirements of the professional bodies. The Foundation subjects are
studied at Level C and Level I. This ensures that students are well
placed to proceed to the placement year.

AIMS

This unit is a foundation law subject required for academic and
professional legal qualifications.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

Having completed this unit the student is expected to:

1. explain the functional role of the law of contract as applied in the
   English Legal System

2. apply the substantive principles of the law of contract to contextual
   situations

3. evaluate the impact of legislative controls on freedom of contract

4. analyse the content of contracts within a commercial framework

LEARNING AND TEACHING METHODS

The unit employs a learning strategy of lectures, seminars, workshops,
intranet and internet supported activities and group and individual
learning activities. The actual composition of the learning strategy will
be designed to best support the nature of the unit.

ASSESSMENT

The Learning Outcomes are assessed through coursework (30%) and
examination (70%).
