Critique Essay Outline After viewing a contract film, complete a critique that follows this format. Essays must be 2-4 pages and will be graded based on state standard rules for writing essays and the OOI essay rubric. I. Introductory Paragraph (4-6 sentences) a. Name of film (i.e. “The Color Purple”) 1. Make sure the quote marks are around the films title 2. Capitalize the beginning of each word in the title b. List genre of film i.e. Intolerance c. State personal opinion/thesis sentence i.e. “The Color Purple” is wonderfully crafted and superbly acted; it is arguably the best reorientation of African-American women in the South during the early 1900’s. II. Body Paragraph (5-7 sentences) a. Brief summary of plot 1. List events in order of appearance 2. List important major themes 3. List minor themes III. Body Paragraph (5-7 sentences) a. What you liked about the film: actors, writing, plot, scenery, directing, etc. IV. Body Paragraph (4-6 sentences) a. What did you not liked about the film: actors, writing, plot, scenery, directing, etc V. Body Paragraph (4-6 sentences) a. What would you change about the film? b. What was different/key to the film? VI. Conclusion Paragraph (4-6 sentences) a. Recap essays main points b. Restate thesis sentence i.e. After reading about all that “The Color Purple” has to offer, it is easy to see why it is one of my favorite films of all time.
