Job Posting #: 618 Drilling Engineer Hunt Oil Company Drilling Description: Hunt’s exploration and production drilling activity is focused on the US Gulf of Mexico, Texas and Louisiana onshore, and several international areas of interest including onshore/offshore West Africa, the Middle East, South America, and other potential areas. Recently, Hunt has been awarded 20 blocks in deepwater Gulf of Mexico. A small team of Drilling Engineers is responsible for all drilling related activities on a project by project basis. The Company will drill a wide variety of wells (40+) each year and currently has six land rigs and two jack-up rigs under contract. Working with internal “clients”, the Drilling Engineer will generally be involved with two to three projects concurrently, under the guidance of a Senior Drilling Engineer. Specifically, the Drilling Engineer will work independently under the guidance of a Senior Drilling Engineer to: • Engineer, design, and assist in the implementation of drilling projects for new wells, completions, workovers, and stimulations • Recognize problems and identify solutions in routine situations, and demonstrate the ability to solve more complex problems • Self-initiate and complete routine assignments, while assisting the Senior Drilling Engineer in broader and more complex assignments • Demonstrate competence and develop proficiency in the technical aspects of drilling engineering • Understand the economic impact of technical and business decisions. • Interface with multiple groups and disciplines • Assists in coordinating field personnel and contractors related to specific projects ensuring cost effective and efficient performance • Help ensure that operations are run in a safe and environmentally sound manner. • Maintain effective communications throughout the department and with “internal clients” ensuring coordination within the company • Participate in the development of short and long term departmental objectives compatible with and supportive of overall company goals and objectives • Develop high standards of technical competence in drilling engineering, keeping abreast of new trends, techniques, and technology in drilling engineering and drilling operations • Work closely with contractors ensuring effective performance and expenditure control • Keep the Senior Drilling Engineer, Vice President Drilling, and other key personnel informed of relevant conditions and activities that may have impact on the operations or the drilling department. Specific Requirements: • A Bachelors degree in engineering is required. • Minimum of 5 years experience in well design and drilling engineering • Working knowledge of drilling safety and well control principles, environmental regulations, and field operations • May have started career in a drilling capacity with a major integrated company building a solid technical foundation, and is ready to move to an independent exploration and production company • Experience profile should include US gulf coast or analogous geologic basins, with offshore, international, and deepwater experience considered significant pluses • Relevant supervisory experience is also a significant plus • Organized, disciplined individual and have a reputation for integrity, maturity, and sound judgment. • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills will enable the successful candidate to clearly and concisely present ideas, contribute solutions to technical and operational problems, increase performance and assist in decision making that will add value for the company.
