My husband Lloyd and I lived in South Dakota for most of our 45 years of marriage, but we lived
in Wyoming for a time as well. Now that Lloyd is retired and no longer riding the rails as a locomotive
engineer, our home is in Nebraska. When our children were young I was a stay-at-home mom, but I later
worked at the Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, SD as tour director and year-round fossil preparator.
Those were exciting years! I've maintained an avid interest in paleontology, and I now have other
interests too. Mostly, I like to write short fiction and play my musical instruments: Celtic harp, Irish
whistles, hammer dulcimer, bowed psaltery, violin and cello. Maybe someday I'll figure out how to make
those cool boing-oing-oing-oinnnnggggg sounds on my didgeridoo. Lloyd plays a variety of musical
instruments too, and we play together often, especially in the wintertime. Recently I've become obsessed
with genealogy and have traced my dad's paternal grandmother's family lines to sixteenth-century
England (with threads leading even further back in time), and to Massachusetts Bay Colony as far back as
1632. I grew up knowing very little about my dad's family, and nothing of his ancestors. I knew more
about my birth mother's family in India than I did about his family. Had I known about my colonial
ancestors, I might have paid more attention in American history classes - or knowing me then, maybe not.
I hope to attend the 2011 reunion and see you all again. It's been a long time!

Taught high school in Green River, WY in 1965-7 and then decided to go to grad school. After
completing masters and doctoral degrees at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, I stayed at the
campus and worked my way to professor. After working in and leading a campus instructional development
program for 20 years I served as a professor in Curriculum and Instruction. I supervised field
assignments, taught technology-related courses and worked with numerous graduate students. I retired
in 2003 but kept working for two more years. One of those was as chair of a department of about 30
tenured/tenure track faculty members. Since then I have taught one course per year fairly regularly but
have pretty much put away my grade book/spreadsheet and work some with a local Hispanic mission
project. Wife Barb who is also a University of Wyoming graduate was a long-time medical technologist in
a local hospital but retired when the triplets arrived in England. We travel a fair amount and have been
around Europe and parts of Asia and are eager to see more of the world in between visiting kids and
grandkids. Son, John, lives in South Bend IN; daughter, Margo, lives in Ridgefield CT

Living life on our ranch for the major part of the past 50 years. Fred and I married in 1962,
while he was working in North Platte. Three months later we moved to Denver where the work was, as he
was a plasterer back then. By 1965 we were expecting our 2 nd child, and my parents were looking for a
hired man, so we decided that Marsland and ranch life would be a better place to raise kids. From then
on, it was cows, horses, and work, work, work.
It was a good life, and I loved it. After my father passed away in 1974, Fred became the boss,
and I the hired man!!! There are things I miss about the ranch, but life now has less work, and less
stress. I have very fond memories of training the horses that we raised. When a horse was sold from
the ranch, I had broke and trained him. The cows were not as much fun, but admit to enjoying them also.
When it was evident that neither of our boys wished to stay on the ranch, we eventually made the
decision that when we were ready to retire, we would sell the ranch. That time came in 2000.
Retirement is fun, especially if one has other interests.
We now live just outside of Crawford, and I spend my time with investment analysis, gardening,
and reading. Investing is a passion, so I spend many hours on the computer with that. Love the stock
market!! I also love to garden---mostly flowers. Fred can't understand why I like digging in the dirt, but
I notice he enjoys the flowers I grow, too.
I belong to a Bible Study group, a Book Club at the local library, and enjoy the church we attend.
We lead a quiet life, but spend a large portion of time with our children and grandchildren. We don't
travel much. Going to visit our kids is about all the traveling I care to do. My bed at home is much better
than any I've ever found in a motel. I am a homebody.
I can hardly believe it has been 50 years since we graduated high school, but when I look in the
mirror, I can see that a few years have passed. Life has been interesting, as well as challenging. At 17,
one has no clue what lies ahead. At 67, I'm still trying to figure it out. May God Bless all.

Scott, is a well-known artist and lives in Victor, Idaho but was in Jackson Hole for over 20 years. Jamie
is the assistant superintendent of schools in Green River, Wyoming, a city of 10,000. I still love to hunt

After graduation, I joined the Army (Women‘s Army Corps). Basic training was at Ft. McClellan
AL (the only place for the WACS). Then on to Ft. Gordon GA for advanced training in communications
(crypto and teletype). Wound up permanently stationed at Ft. Gordon. For two summers there, I was on
temporary duty at a military dependent‘s camp where I was the life guard, swim coach, water ski teacher
and secretary. My ―duty‖ uniform was a swim suit…tough assignment!! This is where I met hubby, Gene.
We got married on November 11, 1962. Gene was on orders for Orleans, France and I joined him three
months later. Our first child was born there in February of ‘64. Next, we went on to Ft. Belvoir VA. Our
other three were born at Belvoir. From Ft. Belvoir, Gene was deployed to Vietnam and I came back to
Alliance for the year. This is when I got girl scouting started here. Then on to Ft. Leonard Wood MO,
Ft. Dix NJ, Nuernberg, Germany, Philadelphia PA and now Alliance.
I have been actively involved with Scouts (boys and girls) from 1962-2005, while with the
Army, with the Dependent Youth Activities/Little Leagues, Kid‘s Theater, etc.). I have had a puppet
ministry in several places, directed children‘s choirs, sang in or directed adult choirs, directed or played
in bell choirs. I received the Silver Beaver Award for Boy Scouting in Germany and again in Philadelphia.
I received the 7th Army Volunteer Award while in Germany. I have been involved with chapel and church
women‘s groups forever. I have been doing a lot of speaking for church groups and other organizations.
Gene and I have a ministry, Just Neighbors, where we have a food pantry, transport people anywhere in a
five state area, help with medications, and put up homeless people. I am involved with Camp Norwesca as
director of two music camps and helping out with Camp Hope. I am also on the Site Management Board.
In 2008, while with the bell choir in Colorado Springs, I wound up having two aneurisms that burst and
was in the hospital for three weeks…but in spite of all that, I am in pretty good shape for an ―old‖ lady.

I left Alliance half way through my freshman year when my parents divorced. We ultimately
ended up in Williams, Arizona where I graduated from high school. I was drafted about 20 minutes after
graduation and spent the next 4 years in the military during those bad times when America was involved
in Viet Nam. I returned to Arizona after I was discharged and went to Northern Arizona University in
Flagstaff where I received a degree in electrical engineering and another degree in psychology. (I know,
the two seem incompatible, but one was for fun and the other was so I could actually get a job). Shortly
after graduation I moved to Sacramento to begin a 33 year career with Shell Oil Company in their
marketing organization. It was a move away from my field of expertise, but Shell was expanding their
sales organization and they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. It turned out to be a wonderful career
and I enjoyed every minute of it. I retired in 2002 and I have been living here in Southern California
since then. There are pages of things that happened along the way, some that are interesting and others
that are pretty boring, but this is the brief overview of my life after Alliance that you requested for
your publication. Most people probably aren't interested in hearing every little tidbit of our lives anyway,
so when I see you at the reunion we can share those events in our lives that took place over the past 50
years.

We enjoy our move to Lincoln, having made lots of new friends. We are active in our church and a
church fellowship. I hold an office in P.E.O., and an office in Welcome Wagon of Lincoln. Our dream is to
make it to Europe while we are still "up and about", but have made two wonderful trips to Hawaii and
Alaska. We are planning a trip to Canada next fall. I have a granddaughter in Lincoln and she has given me
three great grandchildren. I cannot believe that we are about to celebrate 50 years out of AHS, but
harder to believe is I am a great grandmother. Hope we have a great turn out for the Class of 61.

I have lived in Bruning for the last 17 years. The children ~ John, the oldest is my stepson and
lives in Monet MO. Frank, my first born, is married and has four boys. He lives in Lawrence NE; Ginger,
the second born, is married and has two girls and two boys. She lives in Deshler NE; Nicole, the youngest,
is married and has four boys. She lives in Geneva NE. As you can see, we all live close to each other.
After graduation, I went to Trinidad CO Trinidad Trade School (before it became the sex-change
capital of the world). I graduated from there with a degree in auto mechanics. I went back to Alliance
and dinked around and worked on dad's ranch (still miss the ranch). I went to Seattle WA and worked
for Boeing Aircraft for a little over two years. Being young and dumb, I quit there and moved back to
Alliance (way dumb). Went back to the ranch until what was "The Hose and Rubber Co." opened and I
went to work there. There I was to meet the woman who became my wife. We quit there and I went to
work on road construction and we moved to Marquette NE. There I found my true calling as it were.
Worked in Marquette at the "Aurora Co-Op" for 10 years until they down-sized. Then I commuted from
Marquette to the "Heartland CO-OP" in Giltner NE. Then I was down-sized again. We moved from
                                                                                                          19
Marquette to Bruning, and went to work for "Bruning Grain & Feed Co" until I was forced into early
retirement. I still live here and it was here that I lost my wife of 34 years. She is buried here and so will
I when it is time. So there is my timeline in a nut shell, such as it is. Not very exciting, but satisfying, at
least for me and mine. I still get to Alliance at least twice a year to see my folks and visit my
grandparents‘ grave sites.

I got married on November 28, 1970 and have two sons, ages 37 and 35. My wife, Elaine, and I
will be celebrating our 40th anniversary next month. I retired on February 9, 2009 after working at the
Peoples Bank for a little over 37 years as Vice President of Consumer and Mortgage Lending. I enjoy
bowling and my wife enjoys knitting and the like and also does a little sewing. She also looks forward to
her Monday nights at ceramics. My hobby of wood working remains just as strong today as it was years
ago.

Well, to try to fill you in on what's been going on with me, I will begin after my kids were raised.
Roger (Lehl) and I divorced and I moved to Scottsbluff in 1980. At that time, I worked for the telephone
company and then I went to work as a medical secretary in the Home Health Department of West
Nebraska General Hospital. I met my current husband, Jim, while I was living there. We were married in
1983 and just celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary on June 26 of this year.
We moved to Omaha and then subsequently Juneau AK where I was branch office administrator
for Edward Jones. We lived there for 11 years. We moved back to the lower 48 in October, 2001. In
December of that year, we lost my brother, Greg, to inoperable lung cancer. In 2003, I was hired by
Greeley X-ray Group, PC. as a patient scheduler. I worked there for 5 1/2 years and then went to work
for Centennial Neurology as a receptionist. I was laid off in October, 2009.
In June of this year, we went to Rapid City for our granddaughter's high school graduation. I
have decided since there are no jobs available, (at this time anyway), I would go back to school. I am
                                                                                                             20
currently working on getting my degree in Medical Billing and Coding. I will graduate next April with an
associate degree and then may go on to get my bachelor degree. My husband and I live in Greeley, CO and
have done some travelling to see our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. If any of you are in
the Colorado area, please give us a call. I'd love to see you. At this time, I can't say for certain I'll be
able to attend the class reunion. I will keep you posted on that as time goes on.

After high school I received a BA in Education/Business from the University of Nebraska at
Kearney in 1966. I began my teaching career at Bellevue High School, Bellevue, Nebraska, and taught
business classes for 7 years. I was married in 1969 to Gary Sup who was a teacher for the Millard Public
Schools. I took a sabbatical in 1973 from teaching to have our girls, Nicole and Katie. After the girls
were both in school full-time, I renewed my teaching certificate and began teaching part-time at Iowa
Western Community College and Omaha Metro Community College.
I got lucky and was called to teach computer classes at Creighton Preparatory School, a Jesuit
high school for high school young men where I retired after 21 years. It is a wonderful school and a great
place to work. I also taught part-time at Mercy High School, a Catholic high school for young women.
Currently, I am a substitute teacher for Omaha Public Schools, Prep, and Mercy.
My husband, Gary, quit teaching and hit the road as a men‘s clothing sales rep. for H.I.S. and later
the Lee Corporation. He traveled mostly in Nebraska and Iowa. Gary retired in 1998.
Our girls are both married and live in Omaha. We have two grandboys, Bryson and Bennett who
are ―wild and crazy‖ but fun to entertain.
I am very fortunate to have classmate, Roseann Barry Trindle, living in Omaha and annually we see
Glenda Harvey Rusk and Carolyn Cole Jensen. We have had many great times together.
I enjoy seeing the pictures of high school friends and families on Facebook and on our Class of
1961 blog—thank you Sharon—and a big thank you to all of the organizers of the 1961 reunion.
       Hope to see soon.

In recent years I enjoyed travels to Australia, New Zealand, England and a cruise to the Bahamas.
Most of my working days were as a printer for the Greeley Tribune. I worked as a secretary/receptionist
for an HVAC company in Denver for 10 years. I retired 2 years ago. I love reading, cooking, baking and
being with my family. I am looking forward to our class reunion and have enjoyed spending time perusing
our blog. Thanks so much to Sharon and others who have invested so much time setting up the blog and
finding classmates.

Spent three years in Hawaii in the Army at Schofield Barracks...met and married my wife Susan
at Waianae Hi. 1964...Back to Hamburg...a car wreck laid me up for a year. Cut meat, grocery-
stored…started farming from scratch (a real challenge but a great place to raise a family). In 1984 was
hired by Northwest Missouri State University as Farm Manager...also taught meats laboratory. Retired
in 2008 and Susan and I built two duplexes which we rent out. My wife retired from the Sheriff‘s
Department last year, so we are enjoying retirement...but don`t seem to have time to get everything in!
Wouldn`t have a thing to do with kids or grandkids! lol Have made three trips back to Hawaii for old
times sake and I do get in a lot of hunting and fishing with my buddys. Would love to see you all...we`ll
see how things go. Thanks again for all your efforts. I`ll try to send some pictures if I can find any that
won`t embarrass me too bad! Our children ~ Shelby (secretary NWMSU); Katey (teacher…special ed);
Angela (stay at home...charities Kansas City area); Doug Jr. (respiratory therapist, Kansas); Erin (Nurse
Practitioner, Missouri).

I am suddenly a widowed retired school psychologist after 42 years of marriage to the same
beautiful woman. I have therefore had to set new goals which include getting my late life 28 year old
daughter through her second college degree into a paying occupation by this time next year. At that point
I hope to be able to make her and her oldest sister work at running a half marathon on the Michelson
Trail in the Black Hills next spring. However I want to make sure I don't die trying to run that race
because I don't want to lose my weekly basketball games with younger people, daily golf and frequent long
bike rides. Of course I also have to remain able to out water fight my four grandchildren and all the
friends they recruit to help them, something that is getting to be a big chore.
Prior to setting all these retirement goals I graduated from Doane College in 1965 only to be
drafted for a two year stint in the US Army a few months behind Jerry Culp. I ended up being a
typist/teletype operator in Vietnam, a job I said I would never do until they told me it would get me out
of carrying a rifle. Upon being released from the Army, I returned to school at the Univ. of Nebraska and
obtained a Masters Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in 1970, just in time to go to work to support my
first daughter trying to place the sexual sociopaths of the State of Nebraska back to work from the
Lincoln Regional Center. I should mention that I was gratefully employed by Dr. Mark Lotspeich at times
while going to school in a veterinarian clinic where I got to practice cleaning up after sick and boarded
dogs.
These two jobs probably helped convince me that I needed to keep going to school, although
working with mental patients for about 6 years was never boring. It was a bit dangerous though and I
therefore continued into the area of school psychology obtaining a certification in that area in 1977 just
before moving to work at the Beatrice State Developmental Center for the next 7 or 8 years. People
living in Nebraska know that this center has been under the watchful eye of a huge lawsuit to provide
patients with the maximum amount of rehabilitative education possible for probably 35 or 40 years. I was
the intake evaluator for all new residents most of the time I was there and helped design behavioral and
educational programs for very severely handicapped individuals, some of whom were unable to do anything
purposeful. The political wrangling never quit in that institution and continues to this day finally making
me decide to try to work with more normal kids in a public school system.
I therefore took a job with the Columbus Public Schools until my retirement last year. This was
mainly evaluating students for various Special Education programs such as Learning Disabilities, Mental
Handicaps, Autism and many other problems. During these last two jobs I learned how important physical
exercise and outside involvement can be to maintaining ones own mental health, especially when there was
still a teenager at home.
I now engage in a lot of physical activity along with having fun repairing minor household problems
like plumbing, electrical, drywall, etc. I am also very busy as the secretary of my Kiwanis Club where we
do a lot of projects for kids like supplying every 3rd grade student in our county with a dictionary to
keep. This is one of several ways we help deal with a quickly growing Hispanic population needed to
staff all the agriculture related industries in this area of Nebraska.
I have not seen as much of the world as many of my friends and will look forward to hearing about
their experiences, but I did get to do some hiking in Glacier Park and the Vancouver area of Canada this
summer without encountering any bears. I therefore suspect that I or my two jogging friends snored so
loud we scared them out of our area.

have added blogging and painting (oil and water color) to my list of hobbies. For unusual entertainment, I
have tried ―tubing‖ behind a boat, parasailing, and raced again in Bloomsday in Spokane last year (7-1/2
miles). Most of my entertainment is provided by my oldest son and his four children who live in Moscow
near us. 99.9% of the time I feel I have led a very charmed life. Most all of our travels are on our travel
blog ~ http://sharonandtony.blogspot.com/. The past year I took on the job of finding all of our
classmates for this 50th reunion, making the AHS Class of ‘61 Blog as well as helping plan a Phillip Family
Reunion to take place in Alliance two weeks after this 50 th reunion.

We moved to Lincoln in '04 shortly after I retired from Burlington Northern Railroad. After
finishing our basement, I got bored so took on a part time job for five years. I just recently retired from
that (this time, for sure). Enjoy going to the Nebraska Cornhusker games, UNL Volleyball gals, and are
looking forward to attending the Womens Basketball this year so we can follow Alliancite Jordan Hooper.
We have gone to two Nebraska Bowl games and hope we get that opportunity again this year. Looking
forward to seeing our classmates in 2011!

I spent most of the last 50 years working in the Medical Field. I worked in Nuclear Medicine
during my patient care years, then went into administration and spent the last 30 years as Director of
Radiology at 3 different hospitals. I finally took off two years and decided I wasn't quite ready to retire,
so I went back to University Hospital as Business Manager for the Cardiology department. I really
enjoyed that. I didn't have a bunch of personnel to worry about, just came in and did my work and went
home. I enjoy photography, and I make personalized calendars every year as Christmas gifts. I have a
pretty big flower garden and I spend a lot of time with that during the warmer months. I'm not into

supplement his ministry paycheck. He had law degrees in all surrounding states of Nebraska ~ Colorado,
South Dakota and Iowa were mentioned by Loren.

I was married to George Ackerman for 32 years, and we had four wonderful children. We lived on
a ranch for most of those years and moved to Lewellen for the last eight. While in Lewellen, I worked
for Volunteers of America, the Garden County Judge and wrote news articles for the Ogallala newspaper.
I have four children: Gina is a Registered Nurse working in the Cardiology ICU unit in Rapid City SD.
Callan married Gina Gardner. They live in Alliance. Callan has his own feed and consultation business and a
PhD in Animal Science and Nutrition. Mary married Rahim Khan. They are both chiropractors in Powell
WY. Amber married Andrew Dierks. She is a marriage and family therapist. They live in Omaha NE. No
great-grandchildren yet. My oldest granddaughter is in nursing school at the University of Wyoming.
In 1999 George and I were divorced and I moved back to Alliance to be closer to my mother and
my brothers. In 2000 my mother passed away, and in 2008 my brother, Don, passed away. This is also
the year that my ex-husband George passed away. In 2009 my brother, Lonnie and wife Marcia, decided
to move to Texas to a warmer climate and to be closer to his son and wife. My son, Callan and his family,
moved back to Alliance, so I still have family here. I have been working for Palmer Monument Company as
their District Manager for this area selling monuments for the past nine years and will continue working
for as long as I am able. The classmates who live here and in Scottsbluff have a lot of fun getting
together for dinners and meetings. We have had fun meeting to get everything set up for the reunion. I
will be looking forward to seeing the classmates who can come in August.

                          Grandchildren 7 (3 boys, 4 girls)

I was a school secretary at Delta Jct. and Ft. Greely Schools in Delta Junction, Alaska for 12
years; was a realtor in Bellingham, WA for 8 years. In addition, I was raising 4 sons, taking care
of our home and yard along with my husband who worked outside the home. I am the chief cook, bill
payer, bottle washer, laundry person and home caretaker. I have baby-sat some of my grandchildren while
their parents both worked. My husband and I have helped in the churches we have attended over the
years. I was a member of Homemaker's clubs in Delta Jct., Alaska, for 17 years, and in Rogers, Arkansas
where we lived for 9 years. My husband, one of our sons, Brent, and I bought an old 104 year old house in
Missouri and remodeled it in 2004. It took us 4 years to put in new flooring, from the floor joists up, new
plumbing, new electrical, redo and paint walls and ceilings (scraped off about a ton of old wallpaper!) and
woodwork, put in new kitchen and appliances, new bathroom, some new windows, a partial new roof and
more that I am probably forgetting. We also painted and spruced up the outside of the house,
cut down some trees, put in a new wood-burning stove on hearth, fixed chimneys, and put in new light
fixtures. Our son lived in the house while we were remodeling it, and Richard and I drove 5 hours round-
trip from our home and back for the day or week-end that we worked. My husband worked full-time
during the week at his job, as well, and I took care of the rest at home. Now, the house is a rental. When
the economy gets better, we hope to sell it. We live in a house on 5 acres out in the country(since we
bought it in 2003) in Missouri and work to keep it maintained and the yard mowed and kept up.
When I can, I read mystery stories for a hobby, and try to stay in touch with all the family and friends.
At holidays, we usually have some of the boys and their families here or we go to one of their homes. We
have one son and family in Colorado, one son and family in Maryland, one son in Arizona, and the youngest
son lives in Missouri with his family, only an hour away. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats that live with us.
Richard and I built a new home in Alaska that was a 4 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage on 5 acres in the
early 80's. We had bought and sold 2 other houses that we lived in while in Alaska and fixed them up.
When our sons grew up and started moving out of state to attend colleges, we decided to move closer to
them; Dick retired from being area sport fishing biologist, and we moved to the "lower 48". We moved to
Washington for 8 years and later to Arkansas to be near Richard's mother until she passed away. Then
we had 2 sons living and working in Missouri (both in or near St. Louis); one got married and had 2 babies,
so we moved to Missouri to be closer to them. The lesson we learned from all this, is "Stay put and make
them come to you!"
I hope to be able to come to the 50th reunion in Alliance next year and see all of you!

Graduated from the University of Wyoming with BA in Music Edu. in 1965. Married Gary Fladmoe
and moved to Champaign/Urbana, IL where I taught elementary music in public schools while he worked on
doctorate at the University of Illinois. Next move was to Owensboro, KY where he began his career as a
college professor at Kentucky Wesleyan College and where I taught woodwinds part-time, in addition to
teaching elementary instrumental music in the public schools, and playing clarinet in the Owensboro
Symphony Orchestra. Our next few moves took us to the college towns of Brandon, Manitoba, Canada
(where our only child was born), Huron, SD, and New Concord, OH. I ended my public school teaching
career with the birth of our daughter, but continued teaching woodwinds part-time at Brandon
University, Huron College and Muskingum College and continued playing in symphony orchestras. Finally, we
moved to the Seattle, WA area where I played clarinet in a couple of different symphony orchestras, but
passed on the offer to teach part-time at Seattle Pacific University to begin working in the Construction
Surety Department for Reliance Insurance Company (eventually merging with Travelers Insurance). I
stayed with that job for 32 years, and just retired January 1, 2010. I was divorced in 1994 and never
remarried, but for several years have had a "significant other," Sid George. I love retirement and having
time to do the things I enjoy...spending time with family; gardening; reading; working out at the gym;
attending my grandkids soccer, basketball and football games; and attending classical, jazz and celtic
music concerts with Sid.

        50 years and counting...
1961 - 1964 graduated Chadron State College majoring in Music Education
1964 - 1965 taught high school vocal music in Valentine, NE
1965 - 1974 sang in church choir, sang for funerals and weddings, taught private piano, bassoon,
and voice lessons at home in Loup City, NE
        1974 - 1975 taught K-12 music at Arcadia, NE
1975 sold all our belongings, bought a 28 foot "camping" trailer, put the kids and cats in the car
and headed toward Seattle (Rod Eichenberger had suggested this to us earlier...he probably doesn't even
remember!) Along the way we stopped in Coeur d'Alene, ID and Kent was offered an instrumental
teaching job on the spot. We turned it down and stayed the course to Seattle. Washington was laying off
teachers right and left at the time, so we just kept going - down the Coast highway from Seattle to San
Francisco to Los Angeles to Las Vegas to Nebraska and after three months, decided it was time to get
the kids in school! CdA had called a couple of times with yet another opening - we decided to take it.
1975 moved to Coeur d'Alene, ID in September
1978 received Master of Education, Educational Administration degree from University of Idaho

                                                                                                          37
1975 - 1985 taught and coordinated music for nine elementary schools in Coeur d'Alene, ID.
Directed church choir, sang with the CdA Community Chorus and the Spokane Chorale, participated
heavily in Community Theatre, served on the Spokane/CdA Symphony Board.
        1985 moved to Germany
1985 - 2006 taught elementary music at Frankfurt American Elementary School for three years
before moving into administration. I was assigned to several schools during the 20+ years with the
Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDDS - Department of Defense Dependents Schools) in
Germany, including Frankfurt ES, Landstuhl Elementary/Middle School, Ramstein Jr High School (7-9)
where we converted the school to a true middle concept becoming Ramstein American Middle School (6-8)
and Mannheim American Middle School. Amy was with us the first year and then she, Franz, and Spencer
lived with us for a year at the end of our tour. It was great coming home to a glass of wine (or two),
dinner ready to be served and clean up part of the "package". It was a delightful time and Chris and his
family visited us several times for Christmas and summer vacations. We traveled extensively in Europe
and were present for more than one historical event, including the fall of the Berlin Wall (still have
several pieces we broke off ourselves)
2006 retired from principalship at Mannheim American Middle School in July. Moved to Richland,
WA where our son, daughter-in-law, and two grandsons reside. Our daughter and family are only 2 1/2
hours down the road. We are very grateful that we're getting to spend quantity as well as quality time
with our family. We're even seeing some of our own country.
It's been a phenomenal 50 years and ones I certainly wouldn't change. It is wonderful to hear
about and from classmates of 1961 - WOW, who would have thought we'd see these days back then?

My last 50 years‘ report will just continue after our last reunion report. Continued working for
the BNSF railroad and retired October 3, 2008 with 30 years‘ service. Since that time spent
considerable time golfing and traveling to kids, and family. We did have a fantastic cruise/land tour trip
to Alaska, summer 2010. (Added: Moved to Norfolk NE in December, 2010)

What have you been doing for the past 50 years?? I have been both a professional educator and a
professional journalist. I taught at high schools in Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas and at Central Texas
College in Killeen, Texas. I retired from setting the alarm at 5:30 a.m. in 2002. My last 17 years of full-
time teaching were as the journalism teacher at Manhattan, Kan., where I advised a weekly newspaper and
a 272-page yearbook. Since 2002, I have taught English Composition part time at the community college
in our community, and I also write feature articles and cover school board meetings for The Wamego
Times, our weekly newspaper. The two highlights of my career have been being a finalist for Kansas
Teacher of the Year in 1996 and winning the sweepstakes award in the 2010 Kansas Professional
Communicators contest (8 first-place awards).
My husband, Norris, and I have been married since 1974. We enjoy traveling, especially our
semiannual trips to New York City and our summer (or December) cruises to such locales are the
Caribbean, Alaska, the British Isles, Scandinavia and the Spanish Mediterranean.
