WANTED: Full and Part-time Bike Mechanic/Delivery Drivers
Reports to: Operations Director
Supervision exercised: None
Work season: Approximately March 1 to November 30
Compensation: Hourly wage plus medical benefits for full time employees
after 90-day eligibility period

NOTE: Candidates who receive interviews will be asked to bring a copy of your driving

Position Overview:
Denver Bike Sharing (DBS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that operates a new public bike
sharing program in the City and County of Denver. Mechanic/Delivery Drivers are
responsible for the inspection, repair and ongoing maintenance of customized bicycles
included in a 500 bicycle fleet and the continuous transport and delivery (redistribution)
of bicycles to automated stations distributed throughout the city. DBS service area
includes the core downtown business area, Cherry Creek North and University of
Denver. Mechanic/Delivery Drivers will split their time, based on the needs of the
organization, between bicycle repair and maintenance duties at the DBS shop, and the
dispersal of bicycles to stations. DBS Mechanic/Delivery drivers must not only be
excellent mechanics, but also must be competent, courteous drivers, comfortable
operating in a high traffic urban environment.
Successful applicants will join a team of hard-working and committed individuals who
recognize bicycling as a progressive movement that protects the environment, prevents
carbon emissions, addresses obesity and improves a sense of community for all. While
the focus of these positions will be on the technical aspects of running a bike sharing
system, all DBS employees will have to be flexible and work well in a team. As the
public face of bike-sharing and the staff who will have the most direct contact with DBS

members, bike mechanics/delivery drivers will be expected to be conversant with the
principles of bike sharing and act as enthusiastic ambassadors for our initiative.
Skills/ Knowledge/Abilities
Job skills, knowledge, and abilities include, but are not limited to:
The ability to understand the operation and maintenance of all components of a
DBS bike.
The ability to troubleshoot and identify problems with DBS bicycles.
The ability to disassemble, clean, and repair/replace all components of a DBS
bicycle in a timely and cost-effective manner.
The ability to build and true wheels.
The ability to maintain a safe and orderly work area.
The ability to troubleshoot minor problems with docks and kiosks.
The ability to replace components of docks and kiosks.
The skill to operate a vehicle towing a trailer in a safe and prudent manner.
A working knowledge of the geography and street layout of the City and County
of Denver.
The ability to park the delivery vehicle in a manner as to minimize the chance of
a motor vehicle, pedestrian or bicycle accident while loading and unloading
bicycles.
The ability to assist the Operations Director with inventory control and the
ordering of parts.
The ability to perform basic data entry.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualities:
Excellent customer service skills.
Well organized in terms of time management, equipment storage and caring for
surroundings – both in shop and vehicle.
Independence, self initiative.
Good communication and team playing skills.
Adaptability to changing demands and shifting schedules.
Analytic capability and willingness to learn how to analyze system needs based
on real-time web based reporting, anticipate short-term needs of the system,
and distribute the bikes accordingly.
Ability over time to confidently exercise independent judgment necessary to
make decisions which will ensure the smooth operation of the system with little
or no supervision.
Ability to learn about the DBS system in order to answer questions posed by
customers and potential customers.

General understanding of and commitment to practice waste minimization and
sustainability in day to day operations.
Desirable experience
The following experience will be a positive factor in our evaluation of candidates:
One year of shop experience or equivalent
Bike mechanic certification
Urban truck and trailer driving
Physical requirements
The Mechanic/Delivery Driver must:
Be able to repeatedly lift bikes weighing 50 lbs from the floor to a height of no
less than 34”, using proper lifting technique.
Be able to stand for extended periods of time.
Be able work outdoors in inclement weather.
Be wiling and physically capable of riding 10-20 miles a day on a bicycle towing a
trailer weighing up to 300 lbs. DBS will be using human powered vehicles as a
component of the bike delivery system for short downtown trips.
