Johnny Gray not only built a two-car Pro Stock team from scratch in the off-season, but he and his son Shane also have enjoyed success that has established their operation as a formidable force in the factory hot rod category As nitro racer Alan Johnson will tell you, trying to put together a Full Throttle team in the offseason is a daunting task at best, even with proper funding. With just two races remaining on the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series schedule, Gray has qualified for 19 of 21 events and posted one runner-up finish and a career-best four semifinal-round showings, and he is just 46 points behind Ron Krisher in his bid to finish eighth. Immediately following the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals in Reading, National DRAGSTER Associate Editor John Jodauga talked with Gray about the unexpected challenges that he faced in his first season with his new team, the lofty goals that he set for the inaugural campaign, his assessment of the team's performance, and his goals for 2011.
