Dear Bookseller

In this tough economic climate the industry needs as much promotion and support as we can muster.
I am therefore delighted to invite you to take part in the Nielsen Booksellers’ Choice Award 2009 to
select the title you have most enjoyed reading, promoting and selling throughout 2008. The deadline
for nominations is Friday 19 June, after which the shortlist will be announced and you will have the
opportunity to promote the titles in store with the support of posters and stickers. We will also be
asking publishers to ensure that stock of the shortlisted titles is available and that they provide you with
the necessary in-store support.

Nielsen Book is proud to sponsor the Booksellers’ Choice Award, which we have supported for many
years. We also sponsor similar awards in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and are delighted to be
involved with awards of this type as we believe there is a direct benefit for the industry as a whole –
writers, publishers and booksellers all benefit from the promotion and sale of these publications.

This award is open only to books written by South African authors who are published in South Africa –
it is a celebration of South African writing and a worthy award so I hope you will submit your entry as
soon as possible.

   The winner will be announced at this year’s PASA/SABA Conference Dinner due to be held on
    Tuesday 18 August 2009 in Durban at the Sibaya Conference Centre.

We are pleased to continue our support for the Sefika Trade Awards and our Booksellers’ Choice
Award along with Awards for Independent Bookselling, Independent Publishing and New Publisher of
the year.
