HYGIENE WINS NEW CARLSBERG BOTTLING PLANT
Specialist cleaning and hygiene management services provider The Hygiene
Group has just secured a major three-year contract to provide environmental
cleaning services at one of the UK’s largest breweries, the Carlsberg UK
brewery in Leeds. The contract includes the full building fabric cleaning of a
new bottling plant at the 30 acre site.

Carlsberg Leeds was Hygiene’s first brewery contract, which the company
won following a competitive tender in August 2004, when Carlsberg were
looking to upgrade their cleaning specification from standard commercial to a
medium risk food environment.
Initially, Hygiene won the contract to clean the brewery itself plus the
packaging and warehouse areas, but in spring 2005 this was extended by
Carlsberg to include all production amenity areas, including kitchens, offices,
toilet facilities and corridors.

Most recently, Hygiene was awarded a further contract to provide
environmental cleaning of a new bottling plant at the Leeds site, including all
the building fabric, floors and drains. Due to the wetness of the process and
the potential for glass contamination, this involves Hygiene using specialist
techniques such as foaming agents.
Bob Cannell, the Hygiene Group’s Business Development Director comments:
”By combining our extensive experience of specialist cleaning in the food
processing industry with investment in the latest tools and techniques we
have successfully taken Carlsberg to the next level in terms of hygiene.
We have helped them achieve their goal of accreditation to the British Retail
Consortium standard, which places more focus on hygiene in the production
