Job Title: Guide-Interpreters

Job Description: Rideau Hall has been the official Ottawa residence and workplace of every
Governor General of Canada since Confederation. It is also a national historic site where
thousands of visitors visit each year. As a Guide-Interpreter, you will be asked to greet visitors
and attend to their needs, conduct guided tours while interpreting various themes and present
interpretative programs to a diversified clientele in both official languages. It is vital that you
possess excellent oral communication skills in both English and French.

Geographic Location of Position: Ottawa, Ontario

Language Requirements: Be bilingual and possess excellent oral communication Skills in both

    3. Must be enrolled in post-secondary studies.
    4. Must wear a uniform.
    5. Must be willing to work variable schedules.
    6.   Must be willing to work weekends.

Rideau Hall has been the official Ottawa residence and workplace of every governor general of
Canada since Confederation. As a guide-interpreter, you will be one of Rideau Hall's front-line
ambassadors, and with your colleagues, you will greet up to 200,000 visitors, from members of
royal families and heads of State to school children and tourists.

Qualifications

To become a Rideau Hall guide-interpreter, you must be a Canadian citizen and bilingual (French
and English). A good knowledge of Canadian history is an asset, as is experience in historical
interpretation for groups including children and the general public.

Duties

Rideau Hall has been the official residence and workplace of the Governor General of Canada
since 1867. As a guide-interpreter, the incumbent will perform the following tasks under the
supervision of the OSGG’s Visitor Services coordinators:

    1. Greet visitors and attend their needs;

    2. Interpret various themes, conduct guided tours, and present interpretive programs to
       diverse Canadian and international clients;

    3. Work as part of a team;

    4. Ensure the safety of visitors and security of property;

    5. Carry out various tasks related to the Visitor Services program.
