									                            Bleeding Kansas Trip Itinerary

                                        Friday, June 25

7 a.m. - Depart Wichita. If we have others, we will make stops in Emporia and Topeka to pick
them up.

9:30-10 – Arrive in Lawrence. Tour sites and lunch on Mass Street.

1 p.m. – Travel to site of Pottawatomie Massacre and the Battle of Black Jack.

5 p.m. – Dinner and recap. Lodging in Topeka/Lawrence

                                       Saturday, June 26

9 a.m. – Arrive in Lecompton. Take part in Territorial Days. See several first person portrayals
and hear from Tim Rues, curator at Constitution Hall.

1 p.m. – Travel to Osawatomie and tour John Brown’s cabin. Hear from Mary Buster, great
grand-niece of John Brown and great granddaughter of the Adairs, who settled in Kansas in 1855
and owned the cabin. Also hear from curator Grady Atwater at the Battle of Osawatomie site, the
largest battle in Bleeding Kansas.

5 p.m. – Dinner and recap. Lodging in Olathe, KS.

                                        Sunday, June 27

8 a.m. – Depart for Marais des Cygnes, site of John Brown’s last residence in Kansas. Also the
site of the Marais des Cygnes massacre, 1858.

10 a.m. – Travel to Mine Creek, the site of Kansas’ only true Civil War battle. Hear from Arnold
Schofield, longtime National Park Service interpreter at Fort Scott/Mine Creek.

1 p.m. – If time allows, we will travel to Fort Scott for our last stop, before we head back towards
Wichita.

Along the way, we will have some unique surprises and Ken Spurgeon will be delivering talks
throughout our journey.

Please join us as we see the unique sites of Bleeding Kansas. Many of these are off the beaten
path. This is a great opportunity to see all of these sites together and the people related to these
sites. In addition, you’ll be hearing from several historians about the sites and sounds of Bleeding
Kansas.
