Chairman’s message
TCE has embarked on major initiatives to transform its operations. A
corporate marketing group is being constituted whose primary focus
will be international marketing, brand-building and securing overseas
assignments. Business units are being consolidated and rationalised to
optimise use of resources. The Integrated Business Information System being implemented by TCE
will enable it to evolve into a knowledge based company and meet the requirements of its customers
more efficiently and effectively in line with the best practices in the industry.
As in the past, TCE kept its momentum of winning awards. Indian Nuclear Society awarded TCE the
INS Industrial Excellence Award for the year 2001 for making significant contributions to the design
of fuelling machine for the 300 MWe Advanced Heavy Water Reactor of vertical construction. TCE
also secured the Merit Certificate for Excellence in Export of Engineering Services for the year
2000-01 from the Government of Maharashtra.
TCE maintains strong synergy with the Tata Group and continues its journey towards business
excellence by pursuing the Tata Business Excellence Model and is well on its way to achieving
certification of its Quality Management System under the process based ISO 9001:2000 standard.
The company is gearing up to meet the challenges of the future and this leads us to believe that TCE
will continue to reward its stakeholders.

Project
Highlights
Power Generation
TCE provided design and engineering services for the 750 MW
combined cycle power plant and potable water storage and
pumping facility located at Ras Laffan in Qatar.The power plant,
which uses natural gas as fuel, has a desalination plant consisting
of 4 multi stage flash evaporators producing 188,600 m³/day
Ras Laffan Power & Water Plant, Qatar of water.
For the 2 x 20 MW captive co-generation power plant and
revamping of the electrical system of the 3 MMTPA refinery
expansion project of Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited,
for which detailed engineering was provided, was completed.
The gas turbine was also commissioned.
Power Transmission & Distribution
HSD & Naptha Storage Tanks
Detailed engineering for the Power Corporation of Bhutan’s
220 kV Semtokha - Rurichhu transmission line and associated
substations was completed. Construction has commenced.
TCE is providing detailed engineering services for the Power
Corporation of Bhutan’s 220 kV Rurichhu - Tsirang and 66 kV
Tsirang - Dagana transmission lines and associated substations.
The Public Establishment of Electricity for Generation and
Transmission, Syria awarded TCE the contract for design review
of two 230/66/20 kV GIS substations in Syria.
TCE engineers continued to be deputed overseas for the
GIS Equipment Installation following assignments - Electrical substations, transmission and
distribution projects in Northern Iraq for United Nations
Development Program and the 230/66/33/11 kV GIS and
400 kV GIS substation projects of Hitachi, Japan.

Hydro Power
24 MW, Unit 8, of Khopoli generating station of The Tata Power
Company Ltd., for which TCE provided consulting engineering
services, was successfully tested and synchronised with the
grid. With this, all three units of the Khopoli generating station
have been uprated to 24 MW from 12 MW.
The roller compacted dam of the 2 x 125 MW Ghatgar pumped

storage scheme, for which TCE had provided design
engineering services, is in an advanced stage of completion.
The construction of saddle dam has commenced.
TCE prepared project identification reports for major hydro
projects in Uttaranchal for Jindal Hydro Electric Company.
2 x 10 MW Kabini dam hydro project, for which TCE provided
▲ 2 x 10 MW Kabini Dam Hydro Project detailed engineering services, was commissioned.The power
generated will be transmitted through a 66 kV transmission
line. The estimated annual generation is 70 million units.
Water Resources, Water Supply, Waste Water & Drainage
With the commissioning of the water supply component of the
Stage IV, Phase I Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage project,

commenced.
Influent and effluent pumping stations and waste water
treatment works for the World Bank funded Brihanmumbai
Municipal Corporation’s Bandra Sewage Disposal Project are
ready for commissioning.The aerated lagoons at Bhandup were
commissioned during the year.

TCE provided services for selection of contractor and construction
supervision for JIBC funded Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage
Board’s unaccounted-for-water project.
The World Bank funded study of the operation and maintenance
management of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s water
supply system in Mumbai, for which TCE is associated with
Black & Veatch, is nearing completion.
Draft report and detailed engineering components for developing
Delhi Jal Board into an effective and commercially oriented utility
was finalised by TCE alongwith Price Water House Coopers and

Rehabilitation of the 150 km long canal of the Vishakapatanam
Industrial Water Supply scheme was completed.TCE and Lahmeyer
International provided detailed engineering.
TCE will provide engineering services for the 16 mgd water supply
scheme of Nandurbar Municipal Corporation.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s 27 mgd water supply scheme is
nearing completion.
Detailed engineering was completed and tender documents for
project execution were prepared for UNICEF’s water supply projects
for Erbil and Suleimaniyah in Northern Iraq.

Integrated Urban Development
Most of the engineering and tender preparation for the
Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project for
Jodhpur and Bikaner is complete. Construction is under
progress.The project includes development of water supply,
solid waste and waste water management, road
improvement and traffic management.
Construction work for the Gujarat Earthquake Rehabilitation
and Reconstruction project covering six towns - Anjar,
Bhachau, Gandhidham, Morbi, Wankaner and Halwad is in
progress.

Healthcare
Upgradation, renovation and extension services for five

government and two district hospitals in the Nagpur area by
TCE is nearing completion.
Building
Design engineering services are being provided by TCE for
Vysya Bank ‘s state-of-art office building in Bangalore. The
multi-storey building has a built-up area of 180,000 sq.ft.,
with two basement levels.

Tourism
For the renovation of rooms in the heritage wing and
also health club of the Taj Mahal hotel, TCE provided
consultancy services.
IT Parks
Construction of the Cyber tower, utility building and
the reception building of the Ebene CyberCity project ▲ Renovated Health Club, Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai
in Mauritius are in full progress.TCE is providing project
management consultancy for this prestigious project.
For the world class Global Development Centre set up
at Madhapur, Hyderabad by Tata Consultancy Services,
TCE is providing design engineering, project
management and construction management services.

Ports
TCE is providing detailed engineering and construction supervision
services for the Hull Shop II and associated facilities for Garden
Reach Ship Builders and Engineers Limited. Construction work has
also commenced.
Industrial
Design engineering and construction supervision services were
provided by TCE to Tata Infotech Ltd for setting up their ATM
manufacturing factory at Goa.
Hindustan Newsprint Ltd’s 100 TPD Deinking plant was dedicated
to the nation. On the auspicious occasion, TCE was honoured for
the contributions made in completing the prestigious project
ahead of schedule.
Chemical

For Biocon India Ltd’s pharmaceutical plant in Bangalore, TCE is
providing basic/detailed engineering services for the solvent
recovery and utilities as well as the piping and instrumentation
engineering of the process plants.

Telecommunication
TCE is engineering the instrumentation, SCADA and
telecommunication system of the Bangalore Water Supply
and Sewerage Project.
Nuclear
Work on the design of the nuclear island facilities of the ▲ Water Treatment Plant -
Instrumentation
500 MW fast breeder type of nuclear power plant is in full
swing.
With the completion of detailed engineering by TCE for the
2 x 500 MW pressuried heavy water based nuclear power
plant located at Tarapur, construction activities are now in
progress.
TCE has signed a contract with Bhabha Atomic Research
Centre for the fuel reprocessing plant at Kalpakkam. TCE
will provide engineering and construction supervision
services.
