Vision
The Heartland Latino Leadership Conference has set the pace for the city’s emergence in
building healthy relationships among diverse segments of the community.

Since its start in 2000, the Heartland Latino Leadership Conference has eagerly worked
to improve the quality of life for all citizens in Omaha and surrounding areas. The
Heartland Latino Leadership Conference is recognized for being a catalyst for positive
change, a vital supporter of business, government and individual success and an
organization that empowers individuals and organizations to seek, develop and sustain a
     balanced leadership.

Support
Operational funding for the annual Heartland Latino Leadership Conference continues to
be a community effort made possible through local businesses, organizations, exhibitors
and individual conference registrants. Each year the Heartland Latino Leadership
Conference provides academic scholarships to Latino youth and adults wishing to pursue
a post-secondary education in the state of Nebraska. In 2009, $15,000 dollars in
scholarships were awarded to 15 students in the Omaha area. Heartland Latino
Leadership Conference is proud to have awarded over $130,000 in scholarships since its
     inception.

The Heartland Latino Leadership Conference also celebrates community leaders and
presented awards in six categories; Arts and Humanities, Business/ Economic
Development, Education, Government, Health and Human Services, Lifetime
     Achievement and Youth Leadership.

The Hispanic community in Omaha is one of the country’s new gateway cities for new
immigrants. Between 1990 and 2008, the Hispanic population in the city grew 338% and
the overall foreign-born population increased 234%. The Omaha area has become an
example of immigrants’ contributions and of how positive, community-wide efforts can
create an atmosphere that fosters these contributions. In 2009, the Heartland Latino
Leadership Conference demographics showed that 55% of the attendees have an annual
income of $50,000 or more and 83% of attendees have a post high school education.
