Edmontonians are gearing up to line the downtown streets and cheer you on as you march your way down the parade route on Thursday, July 22, 2010 starting at 10:00 a.m. Please take a moment to review these final parade documents: 1. Parade Band Permit & Assembly Plan. This document contains your official parade permit, ‘Order of March’ number, assembly area instructions, and other important information. Your permit number is according to the ‘Order of March’ and will be given to you on Parade Day in the Assembly Area. We will have hardware on hand to affix to your entry. This area is restricted to Buses and Equipment Trucks ONLY! There is no designated parking for private vehicles. Buses and equipment trucks will be allowed to enter 101 A Avenue from 97 Street. An Assembly Area Official will be there with your entry number identifying where to park your bus and equipment truck. You will need your parade permit to gain access to this area. Please advise your members traveling by private vehicle to be dropped off at the Shaw Conference Center (9797 Jasper Avenue) or the South end of Canada Place (9700 Jasper Avenue). We encourage your members to use the LRT and exit at the Churchill Station. Enter 101 A Avenue from 97 Street from the West. Turn north on 97 Street off of Jasper Avenue. RULES & REGULATIONS. Your entry must conform to the description on your official application form, and to specifically adhere to all rules and regulations as published by the Parade Committee in the 2010 Parade BAND APPLICATION FORM. 2. COMPETITION AREA. The Capital EX Parade will take place on a 4 KM route through Edmonton’s downtown core. Signs will mark the Judging area and we will advise you of the judging location prior to the start of the parade. Judging will start when the first member of your unit enters the Judging Area and will continue until the last member of your unit has left the Judging Area. 3. JUDGING STAFF. All members of the judging staff are highly qualified in their specific disciplines. The judging staff is responsible for the four specific categories noted above in the scoring section. Judging tapes will not be provided. 4. PENALTIES. All units must report to Assembly Area by 9:15 AM. Failure to report on time, resulting in an out-of-order appearance, will result in a penalty at the discretion of the Parade Marshal. PENALTY DETAILS PENALTY Once the Parade Marshall gives the unit the signal to precede the unit must employ a continual 200 points or forward motion throughout the entire Parade route. This forward motion must be maintained in disqualification the judging area. Units may not stage any member of their band in the judging area. 100 points Units are prohibited from distributing souvenirs or give-aways along the Parade route. 72 points All units that carry a banner with their name and point of origin clearly marked will receive bonus points. They must also display the entry card number supplied to them by the Parade committee. 50 points The use of animals, pyrotechnics of any type (including fireworks, fire batons and discharge of arms) or any hazardous material shall not be permitted. 50 points The use of mechanized vehicles on the Parade route shall not be allowed. Disqualification 5. SCORING. Road Closures PARADE DAY – Thursday, July 22, 2010 Assembly Area – closed 6:30 AM until 12:30 PM. Located north of Jasper Avenue to 104 Avenue, from west of 95 Street to east of 97 Street. Parade Route – closed from 8:30 AM until approximately 12:30 PM. Curb Lane Closures – Starting 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 21 to Thursday, July 22 until 3 p.m. Westbound: 103 Avenue, 106 Street - Lane East of 106 Street [Wheelchair Bleachers] Eastbound: 102 Avenue, 104 Street - Lane west of 104 Street [Band Judges Stands] Total Closure: 99 Street, 102 Avenue - Shoctor Alley [Television] Parade Route The parade route covers 4.0 kilometres from its starting point at on 99 Street and 102 Avenue heading westbound to 108 Street, turns north to 103 Avenue, turns right heading eastbound and finishes at 97 Street. Estimated travel time is 45 minutes. Parking There is NO PARKING in the Assembly Area, so make other arrangements for support vehicles. Overnight parking and trailer parking is available on Northlands grounds Please email your reservation to email@example.com . Be prepared for Parade weather! Heat causes the most serious problems – if the day is warm and sunny, ensure that water is available for everyone with your entry. Your section coordinator will make sure your entry is in the right spot in the Assembly Area. Assembly and dispersal personnel will direct you on to the route. Parade Movement Our route marshals, have complete control of the parade movement. They may ask you to speed up or slow down – their instructions must be followed. Parade Breakfast On Parade day, all participants are encouraged to enjoy the Safeway Family Pancake Breakfast at Sir Winston Churchill Square starting at 7:00 a.m. (2 pancakes, 2 bacon, 2 sausages, 1 coffee, 1 juice = $3).
