Toolkit Overview
The 2009 Read for the Record Toolkit will help you create a wonderful
event to celebrate Read for the Record on October 8, 2009. In the toolkit,
you will find everything you need to promote and run your event, and to
ensure that your event counts toward breaking our 2008 record.
Many of these tools are customizable to your specific event. When text
appears between brackets and with a yellow highlight, [like this], it should
be replaced with your text. Be sure to remove the yellow highlight before
printing or distributing your materials.
Tool When and how to use this tool
Event Sign-In Print and use the Event Sign-In Sheet to keep track

event registration to let us know how many children
were read to at your event.
Read for the Print and use the Read for the Record Brochure to

Media Release By signing this Media Release Form, parents

each child at your event.
You should consider sending the form home with
students in advance of the event, requesting that
parents sign the form and send it back with their
child prior to October 8. Parents who attend your
event can sign the form on the day of the event.
Children of parents who are unwilling to sign the
form can still participate, but you should take care
not to capture them in any photographs or video
taken at your event.
Email Template This Email Template was designed so that you may
easily customize it with specific information about

parents, and other members of your community to
promote your event.
Proclamation – This Governors Proclamation can be printed or
Governors emailed to your Governor so that he or she may use
it to proclaim October 8 Read for the Record day in

your state. You might consider including information
about your event along with the proclamation so
that your Governor can attend the event, or send a
representative to do so.
