UNDERGRADUATE RELIGIOUS STUDIES SCHOLARSHIPS REQUIREMENTS
Rose Marie and Martin H. Boone, Jr. Religious Studies Endowed Scholarship
1. The applicant must be a declared major or minor in the Religious Studies Department.
2. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school
performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests, and to leadership qualities.
3. When awarded to a returning student, the student must have completed at least 15 hours of
college course work including three hours in religious studies and have an overall grade point
average of 3.25 or higher.
4. Recipients must be enrolled for at least 12 hours each semester during the academic year for
which the award is given.
5. The scholarship may be renewed, but the student must reapply each year.
The F. W. A. Bosch Religious Studies Scholarship
1. The applicant must be a declared major or minor in the Religious Studies Department.
2. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school

The DeVries Family Religious Studies Scholarship
1. The applicant must be a declared major or minor in the Religious Studies Department.
2. The applicant must be of sophomore, junior or senior level standing.
3. Recipients must be enrolled for at least 12 hours each semester during the academic year for
which the award is given, and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
4. The recipient must be accepted for a University sponsored excavation in the Middle East or
Mediterranean region. Selection will be made in the spring of each year; funds are available for
awarding the following fall. The award may be released in full or in part before the start of the
excavation in order to be used for the expenses of the excavation.
5. The scholarship may be renewed, but the student must reapply each year.
The Moyer Family Religious Studies Scholarship
1. The applicant must be a declared major or minor in the Religious Studies Department, or
enrolled in or admitted to the Religious Studies graduate program.
2. Undergraduate applicants must be of sophomore, junior or senior level standing. Both
undergraduate and graduate applicants must have a minimum cumulative overall grade point
average of 3.25.
3. Recipients at the undergraduate level must be enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester during
the academic year for which the award is given. Recipients at the graduate level must be enrolled
in at least three hours each semester during the academic year for which the award is given.
Recipients at both levels must complete at least six hours of religious studies coursework during
the academic year.
4. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed or who are currently taking at least
two Biblical Studies courses.
5. The scholarship is not renewable.
The Kathy J. Pulley Religious Studies Scholarship
1. The applicant must be a declared major in the Religious Studies Department.
2. The applicant must be of sophomore, junior or senior level standing, with an overall grade point
average of 3.2.
3. Recipients must be enrolled for at least 12 hours each semester during the academic year for
which the award is given.
4. Community service at the college level is required for consideration.
5. The student must write a letter to the department head detailing community service at the college
level.
6. This letter must provide names and contact information for two professional references who can
validate that service.
7. Presidential and Board of Governors Scholars are not eligible for this scholarship.
8. The scholarship may be renewed, but the student must reapply each year.
James P. Robinson Ecumenical Center Scholarship
1. Applicants must have completed at least 12 hours of college level course work including three
hours in religious studies and have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
2. Recipients must be enrolled for at least three hours of Religious Studies classes during the
academic year for which the award is given.
3. Applicants must have completed REL 131 Religion in America or REL 332 Modern Religious
Thought or be taking one of these courses at the time of application.
4. Preference will be given to applicants who are declared majors or minors in the Religious
Studies Department.

William R. (Bill) Smith Memorial Baptist Student Union Scholarship
1. Applicants must have completed at least 12 hours of college level course work and have an
overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
2. Recipients must be enrolled in at least three hours in religious studies each semester during the
academic year for which the award is given.
3. Preference will be given to applicants active in the Baptist Student Union. Thus it is encouraged
that one of the letters of recommendation be written by a staff member at the Baptist Student
Union.
4. The scholarship may be renewed, but the student must reapply each year.
Schyler Elizabeth Strong Biblical Archaeology Award
1. The applicant must be (A) a declared major in the Religious Studies Department; or (B) a
graduate student in the Religious Studies department; or (C) a declared Antiquities major; or (D)
a declared minor in the Religious Studies Department.
2. The award will be for participating in an archaeological excavation in Biblical Lands and related
to Biblical Studies. The dig will have to be a bona fide dig, such as an excavation sponsored by
the American Schools of Oriental Research. Award funds may be used for, but are not limited to
paying tuition for the program, travel to and from the program, housing, living expenses, and
expenses related to the excavation.
3. Recipients at the undergraduate level must be enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester during
the academic year for which the award is given. Recipients at the graduate level must be enrolled
in at least three hours each semester during the academic year for which the award is given. It is
realized that most students will receive the award for summer excavations.
4. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed or who are currently taking at least
two Biblical Studies courses.
5. Preference will be given to (A) Religious Studies majors or graduate students or Antiquities
majors over (B) Religious Studies minors.
6. Preference will be given to applicants with financial need.
7. Among otherwise equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to those with a higher
overall grade point average.
8. The award is not renewable.
The Gerrit J. tenZythoff Religious Studies Scholarship
1. The applicant must be a declared major or minor in the Religious Studies Department, or
enrolled in or admitted to the Religious Studies graduate program.
2. Undergraduate applicants must have completed at least 15 hours of college course work
including three hours in religious studies and have an overall cumulative grade point average of
3.25 or higher. Graduate applicants must have an undergraduate overall cumulative grade point
average of 3.20 or higher or a graduate overall cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
3. Recipients must be enrolled for at least 6 hours of Religious Studies classes during the academic
year for which the award is given.
4. Undergraduate applicants must have completed REL 330 Judaism, or REL 340 Christianity, or
REL 350 Islam or be taking one of these courses at the time of application.
5. Preference will be given to pre-seminary students.
6. The scholarship may be renewed, but the student must reapply each year.
The Women in Religious Studies Scholarship
1. The applicant must be a declared major or minor in the Religious Studies Department, or
enrolled in or admitted to the Religious Studies graduate program.
2. Undergraduate applicants must be of sophomore, junior or senior level standing. Both
undergraduate and graduate applicants must have a minimum cumulative overall grade point
average of 2.80 and a minimum 3.25 grade point average in religious studies course work.
3. Recipients at the undergraduate level must be enrolled in at least 12 hours each semester during
the academic year for which the award is given. Recipients at the graduate level must be enrolled
in at least six hours each semester during the academic year for which the award is given.
4. Preference will be given to female applicants. The intent of the scholarship is to encourage
female students in the academic study of religion.
5. The scholarship is not renewable.
