Electronic Payments: The Right Choice
for Federal Benefits
• What are electronic payments?
– Direct deposit and the Treasury-recommended Direct Express®
Debit MasterCard® card are safer, easier alternatives to paper
checks for Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
and other federal benefits.
• Why are they better than paper checks?
– SAFER – Electronic payments eliminate the risk of lost or stolen
checks and give you more control over your money.
– EASIER – Money goes straight into your bank account or is
posted to your card account on payment day every month.
– MORE CONTROL – You can access your money from virtually
anywhere. Your check doesn’t rule your schedule.
