Biography
Daniel Wubah is a Professor of Biology and Special Assistant to the President at James
Madison University. He earned a B.Sc. (Hons) and Dip. Ed. from the University of Cape
Coast, Ghana. After graduate studies at the University of Akron, OH and the University
of Georgia, GA, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Environmental Protection
Agency research lab in Athens, GA.
He was a faculty member and then chairperson at Towson State University (now Towson
University) . He moved to James Madison University as the Associate Dean of the
College of Science and Mathematics.
Daniel is a microbiologist/mycologist who has studied the obligately anaerobic zoosporic
fungi. He has taught several undergraduate and graduate level courses including general
microbiology, medical microbiology, microbial ecology and mycology. He has published
several papers in peer-reviewed journals on his research. He has experience in academic
administration and leadership. His current interests include developing programs to
provide access to higher education for first generation and under-represented college
students and the interaction between diversity and international programs.
He has received several grants from federal agencies and private sources. In addition to
serving on institutional committees, he has been appointed to several advisory
committees. Daniel has served as a consultant for several agencies including the National
Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Quality Education for Minorities
Network and the National Research Council. He is currently a member of several
committees in professional organizations and he serves on many advisory boards. He has
testified before the US Congress on the scientific workforce of the future.
When he is not engaged in professional activities, his primary interest is spending time
with his family. His other interests include traveling, web design, reading books on self
improvement and leadership and exercising (which is his worst challenge). His little
secret is that he is an avid h2g2 fan.
His wife is an Assistant Professor at JMU and they have two wonderful daughters.
