Coordinate & maintain work teams 3660E SUBJECT PURPOSE Successful completion of this subject will enable you to develop the ability to coordinate and maintain teams SUBJECT STRATEGY For this subject you will work in a group with two other students. Each group will form three teams with each group member ‘playing’ a different role in each team. The following table illustrates the group compositions and the roles within each team. Scenario: Your client Kraft Foods Inc. wishes to expand the advertising of its Peanut Butter product to Generation Y by placing in appropriate magazines, a comic that promotes the benefits of Peanut Butter to the target audience. You have formed a team comprising a script writer and illustrator with yourself as the project manager to develop the comic for the client. The client has given you the option of creating either an illustrated or photo comic for the target audience. You consult with your illustrator to determine her/his preferred media for the comic – choices include i) original drawings, ii) clip art, iii) original photos, iv) clip images. Reference. PROJECT BRIEF 1. Why is the project being undertaken? Kraft Foods Inc (client) wishes to use comics to advertise its Peanut Butter product to the Generation Y target audience. 2. What is required of the project? A comic (maximum panels 8) that presents an eye catching story using appropriate dialogue and illustrations or photos to promote the nutritional value of Peanut Butter to the target audience (Generation Y) 3. Who is involved in the project? A work team that comprises you as the project manager and a script writer and an illustrator. 4. When is the project to start and finish? The comic is required to be submitted by 2/7/08 5. Where is the project to be carried out? The project will be carried out using the team’s facilities and coordinated by the project manager. 6. How will the project be carried out? 6.1 The project will be initiated, coordinated and managed by the project manager. 6.2 The script writer will develop an appropriate script based on the client’s requirements e.g. maximum panels 8, and the characteristics of the Generation Y target audience. 6.3 The illustrator will create the comic using the script and either his/her own illustrations, clip art or photos appropriate to the target audience. The Comic Life software is recommended for final development of the comic. 7. How will the project’s results be presented? The comic will be uploaded to a web document host service e.g. Docsto.com, Scribd.com and embedded in the project’s wiki. Learning Outcome 1: On successful completion learners will be able to establish, develop and improve teams. >> Refer to the project wiki that has been created to assist you to manage your ‘comic’ project. Add your team photos to the wiki’s home page. >> Notify (email) your team of the client’s brief and the URL of the project wiki that you will be using to manage your ‘comic’ project. >> Consult with your illustrator to determine the format for your team’s comic – purpose drawn illustrations ? clip art? Or photos ? >> Use the client’s brief to develop SMART objectives for your project and guidelines for your team. Add your objectives and team guidelines to your project wiki. >> Invite your team to comment on the project’s objectives and the team’s guidelines. Learning Outcome 3: On successful completion learners will be able to delegate responsibility and authority. >> Develop a work schedule and/or Gantt chart illustrating tasks , time frames and individual responsibilities for your project. >> Initiate the project and monitor its progress using your wiki for team communications. >> Brief your script writer about your requirements for the team’s comic. >> Manage the liaison between your scriptwriter and illustrator. >> Coordinate the completion of the team’s comic. >> Embed the completed comic in your wiki.
