Instructions:

Choose the "Saving" sheet & enter data
Fill in the calculator, preferably together with the customer / prospect.
The calculation is completed as soon as the fuel price is entered.

ONLY FILL IN THE RED FIELDS
All other fields will be calculated. The non-red fields are protected from editing with the password "pecten".

1) Rate of fuel saving
You may change the rate of fuel saving.

A realistic saving is:
3% for the engine when comparing Shell Rimula Ultra 5W-30 with a conventional SAE 15W-40.
2% for the engine when comparing Shell Rimula Ultra 10W-40 with a conventional SAE 15W-40.
2% for the engine when comparing Shell Rimula Signia 10W-40 with a conventional SAE 15W-40.

2) Extended drain interval on synthetics?
Choose Y or N in the box, if extended drain intervals are applicable (for the engine).
The effect on the total costs is not very big.

DAF and Mercedes-Benz allow extended oil drain intervals with Rimula Ultra and Signia in certain engines.
MAN Renault and Volvo Scania allow extended oil drain intervals with Rimula Ultra 10W-40 in certain engines.
For details, see the truck manufacturer's recommendations.

The calculator automatically chooses an interval two times that of a mineral oil.
(Changes can be made in the "calc" sheet - see Calculations below)

3) Fill in the red data in the table

For most engines in light long haul operation an average drain interval of 50.000 km is applicable on an oil of at least ACEA E5 quality.

Ask the customer his current price for the oil. Sometimes they just mention it. Otherwise fill in a market conform price for Rimula X.

For a modern truck in light long haul operation an average fuel consumption is 33 litre / km.

4) Fuel price
As soon as you fill in the fuel price, the total savings per year are calculated.

5) Save calculation
If you want to save the calculation, use the File > Save As function to save with a different name.
The calculator will then retain its original settings.

Calculations

The calculator uses a number of default values for e.g. sump capacities, oil consumption, transmission oil drain interval and transmission
oil prices. If you want to change these, go to the column "variables" in the "calc" sheet. The "calc" sheet is hidden by default, to show it,
choose Format > Sheet > Unhide... and select the sheet you would like to show.

For a very detailed calculation you can use the DRIVELINE sheet. This sheet is not linked to the others, and is also hidden by default.
