Sunderland to Hartlepool Race
Sunday 7th August 2010
GENERAL SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Rules
The event will be governed by the rules as defined in the RRS 2009-2012, the prescriptions of the
RYA, The International Rules for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea, NECRA 2010 rules and the
following SI's.
2. Conditions of Entry
- Boats must be registered with NECRA prior to the start of this event.
- It is requested that boats post their intention to race on the NECRA website.
- Yachts may be inspected before or after races at the discretion of the committee.
- Each boat should hold a valid NERR rating certificate
3. Notices to Competitors
Notices will be posted on the Official Notice Board at SYC . Any changes to the sailing
instructions will be posted not later than 90 minutes before the start.
4. Signals made from Committee boat or ashore
Start signals and any final changes to instructions will be communicated from SYC committee boat
or SYC race control orally or by flags,
5. Protests
Protests, accompanied with a fee of £5, must be submitted by 19.00 Saturday 7th June to Tees &
Hartlepool Yacht Club.
6. Radio Communication
A boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive communications not
available to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile phones.
7. Disclaimer of Liability
Competitors participate in the races at their own risk. See RRS rule 4 Decision to Race. The
organising authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death
sustained in conjunction with, or prior to, during or after this event.
8. Insurance
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party insurance with a minimum cover of
£2,000,000.
9. Safety
ISAF Cat 4. Liferafts are strongly recommended.
10. Navigational Hazards
Attention is drawn to the White Stones shoals, least depth 2.6m which are 1.7miles SSE of
Sunderland Harbour Entrance, and Hendon Rock least depth 0.9m which is 1.2m SSE of harbour
Entrance and the prospect of seas breaking on them in strong onshore winds
11. Retirements
Any boat retiring from the race must inform the Hartlepool Coast Watch 01429 274931 who have
kindly agreed to act as a reporting station.

All Classes 10:00 BST Sat 0118, 1354 Sat 0140, 1420
13. VHF Channels
Sunderland Race Station will operate on VHF Ch M1
THYC Race Station (Tees Tower) will operate on VHF Ch M2
Yachts are requested to check in with their name and sail number to Tees Tower when approaching
Longscar buoy.
14. Start Line
This will be a line between an outer distance mark and the SYC committee boat outside Sunderland
harbour
15. Start Procedure
Start sequence as per rule 26. (5 minute warning, 4 minute warning, 1 minute prep, Start)
Flags will be flown accordingly for individual or general recalls and competitors may be informed
by VHF

17. Finish Line
THYC finish line is a transit between the centre of the THYC tower and the white post on the S
Breakwater of the marina entrance. Inner and outer ends are marked with red spherical buoys 200 +
400 metres from the breakwater
Yachts cross the line from North to South from the direction of the H mark.
18.Time Limit
18:00 Saturday 7th August 2010
All boats finishing outside the time limit will score DNF
19. Tees and Hartlepool Channels
The Tees and Hartlepool Channels are designated as continuous obstructions and must not be
entered when racing. Commercial shipping in many cases is constrained by draft and cannot take
action to avoid collision. Traffic leaving or entering these areas might require to alter course
unexpectedly. If in doubt about ship movements please call Tees VTS on channel 14.
