POSITION: Superintendent (Security) #184313                          ANNOUNCEMENT NO. 049-2010

SALARY: PS-112 / $2,630 monthly ($15.17 hourly)

LOCATION: LANG-GL, Gillis Long Center, Carville, La.

A THOROUGH BACKGROUND CHECK IS CONDUCTED PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT

EMPLOYEES IN THE MILITARY DEPARTMENT UNCLASSIFIED SERVICE, PERMANENT OR
TEMPORARY, ARE EMPLOYED “AT WILL” AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO TERMINATION OR
EXPIRATION OF APPOINTMENT, WITH OR WITHOUT CAUSE.

1. AREA OF CONSIDERATION: (1) Active Louisiana National Guard Members; (2) Retired National
Guard Members; (3) those eligible for Louisiana State Guard Membership.

2. QUALIFICATIONS: (In addition to below, see application procedures).

   a. SPECIFIC: Must be in the grade of SSG (E-6) or higher. Must have completed all applicable NCOES.
Education requirements. Must have strong organizational and managerial skills. Proficiency in Microsoft
Office desired. Must be able to work variable hours, including weekends and nights. Law Enforcement or
Criminal Justice background, 31B MOS or 4 years law enforcement experience. Must have attained 21 st
birthday prior to placement. Must have clean driving record. Must not have criminal arrest record. Must have
phone and reliable transportation. This position requires qualifying and carrying a weapon and applicant
must be cleared to carry a weapon. Must be eligible to pass a National Security Clearance and employee
background investigation. Overnight travel may be required.

  b. GENERAL: Must have a valid Louisiana Driver’s License, Social Security Card and Birth Certificate.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with peers, superiors and subordinates. Travel may be required.
Must be available to report to duty during emergency or disaster situations.

  c. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: The Military Department is a substance abuse and drug free workplace.
In accordance with the Military Department Drug Testing Policy, all new employees are subject to
mandatory drug testing. Thereafter, all employees are subject to random drug testing. Must meet physical
requirements to perform functions of the position. Ability to work and communicate effectively with agency
personnel and the public.

3. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: By submitting an application for employment with the Military
Department, the applicant agrees to the following conditions of employment:
  a. Salary is paid by Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) / Direct Deposit Only. A checking or savings
account is required for employment.

   b. Applicants who are active members of the Louisiana National Guard or uniformed members of the
Louisiana State Guard must wear the appropriate military uniform and meet prescribed military grooming
standards.

4. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Responsible for supervising all full-time and part-time officers
conducting security operations at two installations, Hammond Air Field and Gillis W. Long Center at
Carville. Responsible for scheduling leave, work assignments, shifts, and request M-day support. To fill
absences and shortages of personnel due to drill, AT and leave. Directly supervises traffic control for the
post. Responsible for all coordination involving security. Responsible for patrolling the facility and working
incidents in all areas. Investigates all personnel accident, vehicle accidents, and all other criminal or illegal
activity and requests assistance from local law enforcement agencies as necessary. Must be able to respond
to all emergency calls regardless of time of day. Must be able to prepare and give briefings to the Installation
Commander and Senior Advisor concerning activity on post during the reporting period. Responsible for
coordinating with local law enforcement agencies for additional support and training as available/required.
Must be able to coordinate with civilians and other outside agencies for tours, information, and assistance as
necessary. Must be able to provide logistical support to customers after hours. Section responsible for
billeting support, checking in guests and issuing room keys. Must be able to provide traffic control and
supervise parking for the Carville Youth Challenge Program on Family Day. Responsible for traffic control
and parking plan and supervision for special events on post. Required by the State of Louisiana to complete
Weapon Post Certification course. Other courses required for certification are Radar Operations,
Standardized Field Sobriety (24 hours), Bombs and Explosive (4 hours), Title 32 – The LAW (Arrests, 12
hours), Accident Investigation (9 hours), Safety Driving (8 hours), and Mace and Pepper Spray (TBD).
Perform other duties as assigned.
