MT 10 ST Flow Chart Page 1 of 2 SUPPORT TEAM PROCESS FOR MASTER TEACHER Application will be processed according to the set procedures of U98 Letter of Intent Received from Candidate Include suggestions for three (3) support team members/mentor; one member MUST be a Master Teacher LSDCC Assigns Support Team with input from applicant Candidate Begins Reflective Writing (no more than 10 pages) The three (3)-member support team works with the candidate as s/he writes the reflective document detailing accomplishment of the 10 Teacher Certification Standards and the four (4) Master Teacher criteria. A portfolio of supporting evidence accompanies the reflective document. 1st Support Team Meeting (Review of application process/portfolio development, scheduling of observations, etc. Observations to Gather Evidence In support of the four (4) Master Teacher criteria and the 10 Teaching Standards. Each support team member observes the candidate enough so that consensus is reached on the readiness of the candidate to move forward to the selection process - at least one observation by each member. 2nd Support Team Meeting Review: observations, 1st draft of reflective writing in response to the four (4) Master Teacher criteria and the 10 Teacher Certification Standards, and documentation to date Decision TAP for growth is required Completion of portfolio Develop TAP (focused on areas of Finalize Master Teacher portfolio growth identified by the educator (application) and support team) to be completed Support Team writes letter to prior to selection committee review LSDCC requesting the formation of of Master Teacher portfolio a Master Teacher Selection (application) Committee Letter and TAP to LSDCC informing them of this step July 2006 MT 10 ST Flow Chart Page 2 of 2 The Master Teacher Support Team 1. The three (3)-member support team supports the candidate as s/he writes a reflective document in response to the 10 Teacher Certification Standards and the four (4) Master Teacher criteria. The reflective document should be no more than 10 pages total, word-processed and double-spaced. 2. When the support team and the candidate agree that the candidate is prepared, the support team will write a letter to the LSDCC requesting the formation of a Master Teacher Selection Committee. This committee will be formed from the Master Teacher selection pool. The application will be processed according to the set procedures in Union #98. 3. When Master Teacher certification is approved by the Master Teacher Selection Committee, the support team will work with the new master teacher/educational specialist to develop a 5-year MTPRP for the ensuing 5-year period. When the MTPRP is approved by the LSDCC, the work of this support team is completed. Master Teacher status is not final until the MTPRP has been approved by the LSDCC. 4. A candidate whose support team does not recommend finalization of the Master Teacher application process can choose to develop a TAP focused on areas of growth identified by the candidate and the support team. A letter should be written to the LSDCC informing them of the support team’s decision – the TAP should be submitted to the LSDCC at the time of the letter. When the TAP is approved by the LSDCC, the work of this support team is completed. 5. The candidate, who elects not to continue the process, should write a letter to the LSDCC indicating that s/he will not be continuing in the process. When the letter is accepted by the LSDCC, the work of this support team is completed. July 2006
