Living in Adelaide
Adelaide is a remarkably easy city to navigate, with only a 20 minute drive from
the city to the renowned Adelaide Hills, famous for spectacular fresh produce, fine
wines and scenery. Also a 20 minute drive from the CBD are some of Adelaide’s
finest beaches, a small sample of South Australia’s 5000 kilometres of coastline.
The CBD itself is also easy to navigate with its clear grid design.
Public transport is a great way to get around Adelaide. Buses, trains and trams
carry thousands of commuters to and from the CBD every day in a safe, timely
and environmentally friendly manner. Within the CBD there are two free bus
services, providing convenient links between hospitals, schools, Government
services, tourist attractions, Universities, shopping precincts and much more.
Tram travel is also free within the CBD.
Living in Adelaide
Adelaide is one of Australia’s most affordable cities to live in, especially as a student.
On average, an international student requires around A$270 per week, or A$14 000
per year to cover all living expenses. Eligible students also receive discounts on
tickets for public transport, tourist attractions, cinemas and festivals.
Adelaide loves its food, and there is no shortage of great dining options for any
budget. For fantastic cheap meals, head to the lively Central Market, bursting with
fresh produce, quality cafes and food halls with a truly international flavour.
South Australia is widely known as the Festival State, and our Arts and Fringe
Festivals are recognised as some of the best performing arts festivals in the world.
Sport is also a prominent aspect of the Australian lifestyle.
Every March the city holds the largest motor sport festival in
the Southern Hemisphere, hot on the heels of a summer of
international cricket at the world famous Adelaide Oval.
Course Pathways at UNI Adelaide
Currently, UNI Adelaide offers a two year Diploma program. This program provides all the
information you need to develop your skills and be well on your way to a career in IT. The
Diploma is also a great way to improve your academic credentials when applying for
University degrees, and in some cases you may receive credit for particular University
courses and jump straight into your second year!
Before commencing a Diploma with UNI Adelaide, all students must be able to demonstrate

This nationally accredited qualification provides students with all the knowledge they need to
become competent IT professionals, with skills spanning website design and development,
performance monitoring, database integration, and implementation and acceptance testing.
The 20 unit course is designed to be completed over two years.

Institute Facilities
UNI provides state of the art learning facilities to help all students achieve success. These
include fully equipped lecture theatres with the latest audio visual presentation systems,
comfortable computer labs, consulting rooms, and group and private study areas.
Students also have access to photocopiers, televisions and DVD players.
All necessary software packages required for the successful
completion of the Diploma program are available on the
Institute’s computers.
All students have access to the Institute Library, a quiet space
to study surrounded by a myriad of resources to help you
achieve your best.
If you need a break from your studies, or just a little time out to relax,
then visit the Student Lounge. This space is for the exclusive use of
UNI students, and is a great place to relax and catch up with your
classmates. It also includes a fully equipped kitchen.
Enrolments and Visas
All international students must hold a valid student visa to enrol in any course at the UNI
Institute. It is a condition of enrolment that students abide by the conditions of this visa;
failure to do so may result in the cancellation of enrolments.
To have an enrolment approved, students must satisfy the following entry criteria:
English Proficiency (Minimum IELTS score of 5.5)
Academic Qualification (Minimum HSC or equivalent)
In-House Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment
Students who do not meet English language criterion are required to complete in an
appropriate English course before commencing their Diploma. All enrolled students must
be over the age of 18.
UNI offers a Recognition of Prior Learning Assessment for students with existing IT skills.
This assessment is performed by staff at UNI Adelaide. All applications for Recognition of
Prior Learning must include the relevant evidence and documentation.
Fee Structure
The annual fee to undertaking the Diploma of IT (Website Design) is A$10 000, a A$20 000
total for the length of the Diploma. This does not include the cost of any necessary text
books or other course expenses.
All fees must be paid in Australian Dollars.
Payment of the first year’s tuition fee is required in full at the commencement of the course.
The payment of the remaining fees is arranged at the beginning of the second year of the
program.
Failure to meet the specified payment due dates will result in the cancellation of your
enrolment.
Commencement dates in 2009 are:
February 2nd August 3rd
May 4th November 2nd
All enrolment applications must be received no later than 20 days after the commencement
of the teaching period relevant to that enrolment.
